Police tell residents to stop calling over loud cicada buzz

Two broods of cicadas emerging simultaneously have some comparing their deafening mating calls to sirens or even heavy machinery. The natural phenomenon last happened more than 200 years ago.

I really want to hear those calls! Dispatcher: 911, what’s your emergency? Person: there are thousands of cicadas outside my home and they’re too loud! They won’t let me sleep! Dispatcher: OK, I’ll send a policeman right over to see how they can help. Really, what do they expect them to do? 😂

Am I alone, being that I can actually sleep while the Cicadas are "buzzing" ? To me, it's a kind of relaxing white - noise, if you will. I'm also NOT afraid of catching / holding/ touching them on their back. I'm 55 YO, and, I've been doing that since I was old enough to appreciate the outdoors. Never been bitten or scared by them. They're a wonderful part of nature. 😍❣️😻

A big headache would also be your pet cats and dogs never having seen them before and gorging themselves on the crunchy and chewy cicadas and becoming sick. The bugs aren’t poison, but can cause the pets to throw up.
