Actually the officer could temporarily take your firearm for his safety. The courts would back him. In fact if you became hostile the officer could take your firearm and you would have to get in contact with a detective to get it back. It could take months if you tried to give them a hard time. Doesn't matter if it was on the seat or on your person. They have laws and procedures in place to make it a bad day for you if they want too.

Us minorities have too careful reaching for identification and such when the cop knows we have a firearm in the car, I’d rather let the cop take it then get shot reaching for my ID, last I got pulled over when the cop asked me was I a CCL holder I said yes and he asked was it in the car, I told him yes then said now that you know I’m not reaching for anything matter of fact I’ll get out the vehicle, he said ok asked to see my ID and CCL card then let me go he never search or asked too see my gun.

here's an idea. how about putting the temp tag in the tag frame, LIKE BOTH COPS ADVISED YOU TO DO, then maybe you wouldn't keep getting pulled over. in some states you can display temp tags in the rear window, provided that they can be seen and read. putting it in a tinted or "stained" window would make reading it difficult.

I agree. Being polite and respectful to LEOs goes a LONG way with them and your situation. If it were me, I'd have bought some adhesive plastic covering the day I obtained the vehicle, or the next day, so as to prevent an instance like this, but that's how I'd have handled it. All-in-all, don't give them a reason to pull ya over. The tint/colored windows isn't your fault, like you said, since that's how it came from the manufacturing company which blows my mind why they'd something like that. Such is life. Be safe no matter what.

After watching till the end, had to add something. Driving my charger between Tucson and Phoenix, traffic is stupid on I-10, people cruising in the left lane on a 3 lane hwy. I got stupid, passed some cars and hit 90+ for a minute, including a Sheriff. When he ran my plates, he came back and asked for Insurance, which I showed him. He was acting strange, but went back to his SUV. When he came back he asked me if I knew that my plate had been suspended, which was news to me. Long to short, my bank forgot to transfer my insurance from Germany to Arizona, and AZ had done a spot check of insurance, saw that I was not insured in AZ for about a year, and suspended the plate and sent a notice to my PO box in Germany. I never received the notice. I had two other cars registered and insured in AZ, but the DMV couldn't figure that out. Officer said that he was supposed to impound the car on the spot, but it was Veterans day, and he was pretty sure it was a clerical issue, and let me off with a warning. I am 100 that he let me off because I didn't argue with him, and was trying to figure out what had happened and correct it on the spot with calls to my bank. For those that would say White cop letting a white dude off, no, he was Hispanic or native American.

Mass. Never gives out temp plates. You go into the rmv and you get two real plates right away! It may take awhile in the rmv but you avoid this hassle!! Nice trackhawk!!!

Take a old license plate and turn it around and tape your temporary tag to using clear packing tape. My husband lost his temporary tag within 3 days of buying his truck and had to get a new one. So I did that trick and got him through till he got his regular plates.
