Police warn against street takeovers

The Tampa Police Department is among law enforcement agencies putting out a stern warning after multiple street takeover events over Labor Day weekend led to nearly a dozen arrests in Hillsborough County.

Sounds to me like there is a good business opportunity for someone with deep pockets. They could build and open up a drift track and give these kids a safe environment to play. Kids need to keep this off of the streets but they won’t.

Same week in 2023 I was at middle class nice area Melbourne Beach area, staying with family and house owned by my veteran friend and his wife. Last day off our stay there was a shooting that made the news just a block away where suspect shot someone than came back around and shot at the news crew.

I would certainly challenge that local law that someone just standing there is a "participant." We have freedom of movement in the U.S. Arrest and fine the drivers, absolutely, but these draconian measures against bystanders is absurd! If they obstruct the roadway, they are fair game. But if they are not in the roadway, they are just citizens watching the world go by.
