LAPD Officer Shoots at Woman Who Hit Pedestrian With Car During Child Custody Dispute

San Pedro, Los Angeles - On October 1, 2023, Harbor Division uniformed officers received a radio call regarding a child custody dispute at Gaffey Street and Capitol Drive, in a local store parking lot. Officers and a supervisor met with involved parties and the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Miesha Scott. After a lengthy discussion, officers facilitated the peaceful transfer of custody of the minor child. After the child exchange, Scott entered her vehicle, a white, Chevrolet, “U-Haul” pick-up truck and appeared to drive toward the parking lot exit.
Scott then drove north towards the location of the victim and one of the officers. Scott accelerated the vehicle and struck the victim, nearly missing one of the officers. Scott proceeded to drive south, toward an additional officer, and an OIS occurred. As officers broadcast a “help call,” Scott fled from the scene and officers initiated a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit concluded at Pacific Avenue and Paseo Del Mar, when the suspect’s vehicle collided into a tree. Scott was taken into custody without further incident. The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the initial scene and treated the victim for the injuries she sustained from being struck by Scott’s vehicle.
The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel also responded to the termination of the pursuit and transported Scott by rescue ambulance to a local hospital, where she was treated for injuries sustained during the collision at the termination of the pursuit. Scott was later cleared for booking by medical staff. Scott was booked for Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer with a Vehicle. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. Scott’s vehicle was impounded as evidence. Force Investigation Division investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.

Funny how she thought she was the safe option for her son. Had him in the back of the truck, then tried to runs over an officer with no care about other innocent people being taken out with him (Thank God there wasn’t a young child standing on the other side) and then crashed the vehicle. He's not perfect, but she is a danger. I told my husband that anything that happens to us will never concern our kids. My dad used my brother and I as pawns in my parents divorce, he did things that he should be in jail for. I would never take my kids away from my husband, they are OUR kids. I don't even care about child support as long as the kids have what they need. Even if you can't get along with your husband, doesn't mean he can't be a stellar father. That being said, we have a calm and happy marriage so maybe that's why it's a civil conversation. I hope you find a woman one day that won't take advantage of you. I remember one time in California the cops were chasing us for what felt like hours I don't know if it actually was hours call Mom but by the time my mom stopped in a field there's a long line of cops coming at us. Note: Dad didn't have to sell the house until 3 years after I moved in. I was working at the time and didn't know how to manage my finances, figured I couldn't help at the time. Part-time job should have been enough. At least he's happy travelling the world with his new fiance and her daughter. I knew a girl whose baby daddy had fully custody and she got to see her daughter every other weekend only. Her baby daddy is a drug dealer, I thought the whole thing was messed up. No not really actually, I found out exactly why she didn’t have even 50/50 custody. That child was better off in a drug house than with her. The courts NEVER want to take a child away from their mother, ever! You have to seriously mess up as a mother to have your child taken from you

At the tender age of 5, this boy will have vivid memories of this incident for the rest of his life. We can all hope that the cousin who has custody will provide him with a loving, caring home and that this child will become a productive member of society and not follow in his mom's footsteps. What a tragic, sad thing for a child to go through. Inadequate as it may be, she is still his mom and that's a special bond that should never be broken. But it was her choice to break that bond, without any consideration for the child's feelings. Some people should never reproduce.
