Polishing a broken seashell by hand (12 hours)

This is a worn seashell with an ugly appearance, and when it was hand sanded and polished by me, it was even more beautiful than glass.

As a challenge try doing it with hides, sand, ash, and things like horsetail (salt marsh plant). People polished shells like that for making combs and certain kinds of jewelry long before modern methods were invented.

can you polish just half of an abalone so you can see the before and after on the same piece at the same time?

I think you can do the same. Seen polished abalones. The large ones from USA pacific coast are endangered so usually it’s the little ones from other parts of the world that’s used.

Shellfish shells contain heavy metals. When working with them you need a RESPIRATOR not just a mask as the partials are to fine, plus full PPE. Please please please go see a doctor to get your blood checked for the levels of heavy metals. Please stop polishing shells without proper gear!

I'm 1:16 in and all I see is you destroying the natural contours of the shell with a heavy duty file and then smashing off the circumference. Had to stop watching there and then.
