Starmer is a Tory cuckoo in the Labour nest. His latest act of betrayal of grass roots socialist values is to renege on free school meals for the children of this country. He does not care for an alternative political view as embodied by Corbyn. His main concern is maintaining the status quo of the establishment.

Neoliberalism is the root of the problem- it is the word that should be part of every conversation for those interested in a route map out of the mess. Until it is widely understood and the dots are joined, nothing will change. The SNP and Greens have rejected neoliberalism in favour of social democracy or democratic socialism in the case of the Greens, while Labour and the Lib Dems cling to its wreckage as society and economy collapse in front of their eyes. Labour abandoned its founding purpose to represent the workers against capital under Blair when it embraced Thatcherism. No wonder she described 'new' Labour as her greatest achievement. Starmer has nothing at all to offer.

Nonsense. You embrace open borders Globalisation ( rule by international finance capitalism ) and have no solutions. You never talk about manufacturing or controlling mass immigration. Immigration is international finance capitalism importing an OVER SUPPLY of labour in, which is a race to the bottom. Oligarchs love immigration. Capitalism will never invest in training or increase pay and conditions if it can just fly in labour. You have no solutions. That why the Left is in decline across the West. Pancaked in Greece and Germany this week an example.

I agree with all you say. The majority of British people are ready for real change; nationalising water, energy and the railways are all popular with the majority but not with the managerialist class of current politicians. They all vie for power in order to better serve corporate interests rather than those who elected them. If we want to be sure these self serving chancers are deterred we need much more transparency throughout the political system. We also need to introduce proportional representation. The two party, winner takes all scenario just ensures nothing will ever change.
@eightiesmusic1984

@@richardmaynard4942 Thank you. PR is vital but Labour has ruled it out, another example of its timidity and hopelessness in the face of growing support for it and the fact it would clearly help to make democracy more representative. It does carry the risk of extremist parties gaining seats which no right thinking person wants to see but they would not have much influence ( hopefully). Neoliberalism is an extremist ideology that is so insidious, not just because of the damage it has caused, but also the way it has infected every aspect of life to the extent that much of the time people do not even notice it. The price of everything and the value of nothing to coin a well known phrase. Lack of faith in politicians is both dangerous and understandable in many ways but it is up to the public to channel that disenchantment into demanding more from the system and properly engaging in the issues. Knowledge is power, etc.

In desperate they've been driven down blind alleys like Brexit or the bnp or the English national Party or even Boris Johnson ffs. More unions should cut ties with Labour and leave it to its neoliberal delusions. Some have seen the light in this respect and more broadly there is a recognition by the union movement that it is wasting its time with Labour to a large extent, hence the focus on winning industrial disputes. Labour's lack of support for this speaks volumes and vindicates the changed approach by the unions.

Right. I love mhairi black. But that response to housing in Glasgow needs challenged. It's not sorted. It's an ongoing problem. The SNP government is creating the problem by going in partnership with landlords like Wheatley and funding regeneration and so far the demolition of 17,000 social homes in glasgow. Wheatley have only build around 3500 to replace them and a big proportion of those are private and mid market homes. The SNP, and the Greens, ignore local campaigns calling for retention and retrofit of not just homes but beloved community centres, because it is deemed a 'local issue' - but letting it be determined by Scotland's biggest landlord, Wheatley. Who they are in partnership with. Wheatley operate very badly in neighbourhoods and manufacture consent through a range of tactics from disinvesting in buildings for years before demolition so the residents are sick of living with broken lifts etc, to racially profiling and bullying residents out their homes. So no. It's not okay now in Glasgow. Follow the Wyndford residents union on Facebook or @savethewyndford on Twitter to be kept up to date with how residents are fighting back against Wheatley

@@declangilmour8184 Self ID was the wrong hill to die on for the SNP. It may well have had cross-party support but it did not have majority public support. In many ways it was a democratic outrage for Westminster to block the law, but interestingly, polling showed that 60% of Scots were against scrapping the medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria and actually agreed with the section 35 order. Which rather complicates the picture the SNP likes to paint that 'Scotland's voice is being ignored'. Plus, it's kind of darkly hilarious that the one thing the SNP said would never happen - that self ID wouldn't have an adverse impact on women's only spaces - literally happened within weeks of the bill passing. You couldn't make it up.
@declangilmour8184
@declangilmour8184 Жыл бұрын
@robbieshand6139 the bill was 6 years in the making with 2 of the largest EVER public consultations from the Scottish Parliament that had overwhelming support from the public before they went forward with the bill, and again in Parliament Cross party support from every single party bar tory. (Even then, 3 torys had free vote and voted in favour of it) After the bill was passed there was a drop in support but it also wasn't overwhelming against especially when considering previous polling that was favourable. I'd argue the drop was mainly pushed by media outrage as nearly all news and newspapers had near constant coverage that was largely negatives but alas regardless of reason you're right that support dropped but at the end of the day the job of a politician imo isn't to be swayed by public opinion. In the words of Tony Ben: "I have divided politicians into two categories: the Signposts and the Weathercocks. The Signpost says: 'This is the way we should go.' And you don't have to follow them but if you come back in ten years time the Signpost is still there. The Weathercock hasn’t got an opinion until they've looked at the polls, talked to the focus groups, discussed it with the spin doctors." Public opinion while it has an impact of course, as a leader I think any politician regardless of party or alliegence left or right wing etc should act based on what they believe will actually make a positive impact backed up by facts and experts, not swaying based on public opinion. As example of public opinion being wrong racism and homophobia used to be deemed okay (by government too tbf but it shows public doesn't always know best) As for basing off facts and experts gender ID is no threat. Its been in numerous neighbouring countries like Ireland for YEARS with 0 reported issues. There was 150 ammendments to the bill to make it more safe. The bill even directly mentions the equality act is supposedly cometes with according to the UK stating that it doesn't change public policy around provisions of single-sex spaces and services. The SNP claimed it wouldn't have an impact because legally, as far as the bill goes it wouldn't have any impact on women only spaces etc. Which case are you referring to where self ID had an adverse impact on women's spaces due to self ID in scotland?
