You obviously haven't read the Labour amendment, because it clearly calls for a ceasefire, and does so more emphatically than the SNP motion, going even further to impress the importance of Palestinian statehood. Here is the full wording of the Labour amendment: "That this House believes that an Israeli ground offensive in Rafah risks catastrophic humanitarian consequences and therefore must not take place; notes the intolerable loss of Palestinian life, the majority being women and children; condemns the terrorism of Hamas who continue to hold hostages; supports Australia, Canada and New Zealand’s calls for Hamas to release and return all hostages and for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, which means an immediate stop to the fighting and a ceasefire that lasts and is observed by all sides, noting that Israel cannot be expected to cease fighting if Hamas continues with violence and that Israelis have the right to the assurance that the horror of 7th October cannot happen again; therefore supports diplomatic mediation efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire; demands that rapid and unimpeded humanitarian relief is provided in Gaza; demands an end to settlement expansion and violence; urges Israel to comply with the International Court of Justice’s provisional measures; calls for the UN Security Council to be meet urgently; and urges all international partners to work together to establish a diplomatic process to deliver the peace of a two-state solution, with a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state, including working with international partners to recognise a Palestinian state as a contribution to rather than outcome of that process, because statehood is the inalienable right of the Palestinian people and not in the gift of any neighbour."

Look up the rules for PMQs. Basically the people guaranteed time to ask questions (in the limited 2x15 minute sessions) are the leader of the opposition and the 2nd largest opposition party. So in the previous parliament that would have been Labour & SNP leaders, this time it will be Conservative and Liberal leaders. Beyond that it's potluck and largely depends on time. And aside from that, if she hadn't had the Labour whip withdrawn for saying some pretty indefensible things, maybe she could have had Starmer name drop her to "catch the eye" of the speaker for her own follow-up. As it was that wasn't going to happen so she took her chances like every other backbencher. And then whined about it when it didn't happen.

@@patbaker2199 The Tories made an enemy of him multiple times by trying to oust him when Cameron was in charge and then trying to subvert the role of the commons throughout the Brexit process. The civil service are also impartial, but the Tories struggled to make any effective use of them after Truss & co started to make a public enemy of them. Bercow was a very controversial speaker because he gave a lot more deference to the backbenchers than previous speakers. When the Brexiteers were trying to get a referendum he enabled them to get a lot of parliamentary time. After the referendum, he did the same for the remain benches. That's not impartiality, it's being partial to backbenchers over the government. Hoyle was chosen because his views about the speakership were more in line with previous convention.

I assisted Lindsay Hoyle with his 2017 election when he was then deputy speaker. Certainly representation is an issue, I've found him chirpy and passionate about local issues and Labour policies. Alhough my Dad thinks he has too much of an ego, when he helped an independent candidate in the 2019 election. Many of our political quirks are hundreds of years old, it's good to keep some traditions, but some things need updating. It's also good to see Cat Smith finally on government benches, Kier needs bring in more of the left leaning MP's and reunite the party. I know Cat from my very first year at Lancaster university, through the universities very active Labour club.
