The growth has happened as its easy to do online. We've had or we had in the 80s jumble sales, regularly at the church hall. I'd go regularly as a kid in the 80s. Its nothing knew, its just easier to do than a jumble sale. The problem with these apps is lots of people can't be bothered to do their own research. Being in IT I see it all the time, users not being interested in the history of apps, not bothering to do their own research. Lets take Temu for example. Heard someone at work raving about buying cheap t-shirts. Ignoring the human rights issues of China, the sweat shops, never questioning why its so cheap and not thinking about shipping all that tat from China. The issue here is much like Fast Fashion. That was clearly a bad idea but influencers and buyers gave no shits so kept buying.

@@PastaSauce. They're still around.. Most of the stuff on Vinted is bought from car boots, jumble sales and charity shops, with at least 500% profit thrown on because internet people want to pay more for things. Re affordability, it’s a mostly (not only) British thing. I live in the U.K. and recognise how tight money has become. I however have 3 grown-up kids in Denmark between 24 and 30yo, and there things are very different. They all live independently, none of them have any debt (universities are free, and you are paid an allowance whilst studying), wages are way higher that here, my youngest is working for a cleaning company which clean at hospitals, and he’s just under £40k a year, and their living costs (they all rent) is about 1/5th of their month take-home income. They use bikes to get to/from work, so no cost on that either, but public transport is ridiculously cheap anyway. Point being, none of them are short of money. My youngest however do use Vinted, but mostly to source very particular things he wants that are no longer in shops. Point being, costs of many things have gone up globally, but thinking that this has caused a living crisis all over, is simply untrue.

@DavidManser
@DavidManser 3 ай бұрын
@@DeeExailProductions I don't know the specifics of how the mentioned site sourced the images, but there are steps that Vinted can take that make it very hard for the average yahoo to just scrape images from their sites / apps and and also make it easier to find them if they do. They should be proactive in looking for said images and then take aggressive legal action when they do and if they leverage copyright law (which I reckon they can with the right Ts&Cs) they will get service providers and other tech companies to take action very quickly. So yeah, they can't stop men being pigs, but they can make it hard to do and costly to keep doing and push them to being much harder to access - which would help and is not beyond the realms of being reasonable for a billion dollar tech firm to manage.

Two major points you forgot to mention : - a lot of the female Vinted users being exposed to sexual harrassment are minors, being targeted specifically, for example by men posing as buyers to get them to send more photos. - the most common complaint about Vinted is the huge amount of scams and the fact Vinted offers absolutely zero support in these situations, often refunding the wrong person Another smaller point but still worth noting, is that Vinted is in violation of EU privacy laws by ignoring RGPD personal data erasure requests.

I suppose Vinted could create a program that checks the sellers item name against a database of recalled items, and that would be great, but I don’t think eBay or Facebook marketplace have anything like that in place. At the moment the onus is on the seller, and I don’t believe platforms are legally required to do anything other than forbid it in their terms and services, which they all do. It would be nice if there was some legislation enforcing something like that. Other than that, I don’t see what Vinted is reasonably expected to do about pretty much anything talked about here. These are just all issues of using the internet more generally.

False. Many viruses like herpes cannot be destroyed through sanitisation. They are resistant even to alcohol. The same goes with buying used earrings. If the seller had hepatitis you're getting it. Cleaning the jewelry won't help. As a MUA, makeup artists don't tend to use their makeup products on people who have active skin conditions or herpes on their face. In this situation we tell them we have to use their own products and brushes. Though there are a lot of irresponsible MUAs out there, just like those department store brands that make you use lipstick testers that have touched 200 other mouths.

The public have slowly come to accept police failure since Theresa May started to underfund the service. Subsequent conservative administrations continued that trend. Most people now accept that it is more likely than not that the police will find an excuse not to investigate crimes and so don't even bother to report them. The police then claim that crime is down when it is in fact reporting that is down because of lack of trust in the service. They might make an exception for you if you are a high profile person like Taylor Swift or a Judge or an MP. The police service is no longer fit for purpose and the conservatives are not the party of law and order.

You certainly cant blame vinted for people perving over womens photos. Seems to me very little of concern was found which simply does not justify this title of this video in any way, Vinted should really ask for a takedown here. I do however think their support section needs work but ebays is far worse, every large companies with over 250k customers should be forced to provide a support service by phone or live chat with an actual person as a bar minimum.

Maybe I'm cynical, but expecting customer service support from many companies is naive. Fiduciary Responsibility has been twisted to mean spend nothing on your customers, support for brand protection seems an old idea, it's just a cost centre now. Shame, but people are too busy to shop around, so get shafted

Heres the thing though. This spot light is the kind of thing that will result in restrictions and regulations that wont harm the company but will make selling and buying harder. When the very very vast majoirty of people have a fine experience. An individual case or a handfull of potentially dangerous are not representive of the majority of the app and sometimes we should just trust people to not buy dumb ass stuff and if they do thst should be on them. That sucks for that guy but that could have happened buying off ebay and you are literally discouraged from sending packages to your home address. This just feels like making an issue out of not alot

Very creepy for sure, but have you guys seen the internet? All photos on the internet can be subject to the same thing, especially if linked to a physical address, don't people know this already? The idea of asking Vinted to fix that seems pretty weird, did they manage to get the site taken down? Expect 5 more to pop up in its place. There are serious things to worry about, this isn't one of them IMO (to clarify: threats are a police matter, be careful how you share your data on the internet. Pervy sites on the internet are here to stay I imagine, let's focus on the ones that deal with children or abuse etc)

Admittedly i'm only 6 mins in but I'm already annoyed. Let adults make their own decisions, if they want to buy used cosmetics or second hand electricals what is YOUR problem? if Vinted was to do all those checks they would need to charge and one of the reasons ppl buy on it is because it is cheap. So from the competition perspective you're lobbying for the market to be less competitive for customers. All those "protections" and "guarantees" well-meaning people demand come with a price tag and eventually the measures turn against those who want to be able to choose. When the government wanted to limit numbers of repossessions banks had to tighten up their affordability criteria resulting in people being unable to take a mortgage even if their rent is currently higher than a mortgage repayment would be. If you want landlords to stick to particular standards the cost of it must be passed on the renter. What if I'm happy to live in a substandard but cheap accommodation for a period of time which would allow me to save money for a decent deposit? What if i don't mind buying maybe even faulty hairdryer on Vinted because i know i have skills to repair it. Some people find it gross wear second-hand clothes but some don't mind and it is not your place to tell them how they should feel about it. Using Vinted is not mandatory as long as the descriptions are clear and not misleading it's fine. Don't like it - don't use it, there are plenty of places you can do your shopping instead.

So essentially you can have safe or you can have cheaper but no idea whether it's safe? Are you happy with that across the board? Unsafe cars, unsafe electricals, unsafe food... It's not unreasonable to expect people to be able to buy things that are safe and many people don't have the knowledge to make that assessment.

How come i can drink myself silly putting health and life at risk, either mine or others (when i decide to drive or have a fight after having a drink for example) but i should not be allowed to buy a used cream that might give me a rash.
