The irony of today's parliamentary session was that the speech that reverberated the most and held the most authority, truth and feeling was that by Kier Starmer, this was a speech by a true leader and someone who holds integrity and is respected by his peers, he also got the Queen's vote hence him becoming knighted. In comparison the feeble few words which Boris uttered made him look even worse than he has done, he didn't even have the respect to make eye contact with Kier Starmer during Kier's speech. It didn't show it on this video bit it's clear on others: after his speech, he sat down & for a few moments after looked like he was struggling to not cry. His chin was shaking with the effort. I felt so sorry for him. With the actions of some of them, it's so easy to forget that some politicians are genuinely decent people who truly believe their policies will help society in general. They're not all doing it to make an easy profit & live good life full of all the rewards grifters get. Some really do serve their communities. The fact is that we currently have a Prime Minister who is trying to defend his position by trying the persuade the public that he is just plain stupid and stupid to such a degree that he cannot be held to the same standards as any normal person. Let that sink in. The PM, the man who is the leader of the entire country, the man in whose power it is to make decisions of such magnitude that they determine whether tens of thousands live or die, has stood before Parliament and effectively argued to his Party and indeed the country that he shouldn't resign from his position as the most powerful man in the country because he is so dim that he didn't realise he was breaking his own emergency rules/laws. And he will get away with it. Why? Because he possesses a large Parliamentary majority, and because a significant majority of his Parliamentary majority are quite happy to accept that he should not be held to the standards that apply to the rest of us. Frankly, I expect my PM to be held to HIGHER standards than any normal person, otherwise they are simply not fit to hold office. Something is very VERY rotten at the heart of British politics and the last 6 - 7 years have shown that serious institutional and constitutional change is desperately needed.

This is exactly it. I think all the prime ministers before Cameron would have been out of office if even one of Johnson's many scandals had come to light during their terms. Even his affair showed he was able to lie to people he supposedly loves and cares about, and I'm sure that many past pms would have resigned in shame. Lockdowns were needed and, it was important to enforce rules and, hell if they'd just started much earlier, not been so on-and-off and made actual coherent sense from the start, we wouldn't have needed them to stretch on for so fucking long. But on the other side of it the enforcement was bloody heavy-handed in a lot of cases. Utterly needlessly, and especially to the point of disability discrimination. Come down hard as you like on some have-a-go deliberately breathing in peoples' faces, but that's not the same bloody thing as someone needing a short break before they're able to walk again. Pretty damn easy to tell the difference.

A day before one of the May parties I attended a friend's funeral. He was a nurse on one of the first covid wards in Worcester. He died after contracting covid at home alone. I couldn't go into the crematorium so had to wait outside, his family couldn't attend due to covid restrictions on travel. It took months to sort out getting his ashes home. He died helping others whilst these parties, gatherings or meetings were going on. I've lost all faith in government now, after thinking they were doing a great job. Time to resign and fine all people attending these events or give back all the money issued in public fines.

She was an utterly useless PM. That's not wholly her fault, mind, but going into an Alliance with the DUP instead of forming any sort of cross-party unity government to deal with brexit was a fundamental strategic error which ultimately doomed her premiership. Any deal which satisfied the DUP was too radical for the moderate wing of the Conservative party, and vice versa was too compromised for the DUP and ERG. Instead of seeking a broad-church cross-party majority, she tried to scrape by. And she failed. All that being said, she at least had some integrity - more integrity in her little finger than Boris has in his entire body.

Being an expat and having to watch all things happen from afar, it seems the British public has committed two major gaffs since my departure. Voted for Brexit, ( huge facepalm moment ) and voted for the biggest piss taker ever to run the country, whose approach to being prime minister appears to be that of one big jolly jape with all his skoolboy cronies when they've misappropriated the keys to the tuck shop.. ( good going chaps, let's grab all the buns ) .. The house of Boris may not be quite as sinister as the house of Trump but both were and are equally damaging to their respective democratic institutions in many, many ways. Politics at the top level isn't supposed to be fun or a pageant or even a personality contest. It's about the ability to make the right decisions at the right time, no matter how hard or unpopular and when applying laws and rules, especially punitive ones, everyone abiding by them equally.
