From Thatcher onwards Unions have been demonised. But without them we have zero hours contracts, gig working etc. We need to re educate the people. Tell the stories of the 19th century. But if we’re going to be transparent, shouldn’t he have mentioned the issue of immigration? People are voting for farage because he’s speaking about that issue and to just shrug it off and say any criticism of immigration policy is ‘hate’ seems a little lazy and rather foolish. I found this speech to be rather stuck in the past, the reality is millions of actual working class people, not middle class posers, feel completely abandoned by Labour and men like this. To not have open dialogue about both the positives and the negatives that the mass movement of peoples has had over the last 10 years is to ignore something that 10’s of millions see as a major issue. Ignoring it, trying to cover it up with empty shouts of ‘hate’ will not make it go away. Neither will perpetuating the delusion that the only reason people think this way is because of pesky figures like farage whispering it in their ear. Many are totally oblivious to idea that maybe they have come to this conclusion themselves based on their own experiences. To remove Farage. Will. Not. Make. It. Go. Away. Whether this guy likes it or not, 70% of all constituencies went lower levels of immigration. This is especially true in working class communities. Ignoring people on this issue or acknowledging them only to hurl abuse at them isn’t going to work. Britain, even the rest of Europe will just keep turning further and further to the right of we do. Men like this are dangerous. To assume something is perfect and beyond criticism is dangerous, infact it is itself extremism thinking.
