I hope that one of his siblings is still alive somewhere and takes over as PDM 2 in later movies. I really liked what james did with his powers and backstory. Maybe RatCatcher2 saved a piece of his suit after being seen inspecting what was left in the movie. she could track down and return it to one of PDMs siblings which results in them being infected with the Polka dots. Could be a clean way of returning the character (sort of)

Wasn't it stated in the movie that their mother ( polkadot family ) experimented on all her children and polka is one of the few survivors along with a couple other siblings. If I remember correctly he said some of them died while others survived.

He can distinguish individuals by size, dress and voice, but they still look like the woman who tortured him and his siblings. As far as reasons for suicidal ideation or wanting to die to end ones own suffering, he's got better reasons than most people with severe mental disorders I've dealt with.

I’ve known of Polka-Dot Man (A.K.A. Mr. Polka-Dot) for a long time, and I liked him because his power seemed so ridiculous it was genius. I love things like that- “so ridiculous it’s good.” So, when I saw that he was joining The Suicide Squad on the big screen, I got super excited! I was like, “YEEESSSS!!! He’s finally going to get the love he deserves!!” And oh, my God, James Gunn did not disappoint. Thank you! I really hope we get to see more of David Dastmalchian in other DC projects, even as a voice for an animated Polka-Dot Man.

Polka-Dot Man's death delivered a punch to the gut in service of a cheap gag that is not amusing in the slightest. I saw it coming a mile away based on his epic line from the trailer. The character had one of the absolute best arcs in the film and deserved a dignified resolution in the end. He should've lived to enjoy his shining moment in the sun, or at the very least, performed a noble sacrifice to save the team. What actually transpired will henceforth be remembered as one of the biggest ill-advised story choices in cinema history. I kid you not. Rick's demise was sorrowful and shocking, but Abner's sudden send-off was soul-crushingly painful. It was an effective dramatic moment in the sense that it has me questioning my own mortality and fleeting existence in the grand scheme of things many hours after my first viewing experience. We all need to live bigger, bolder, and better with each breath we take on this blessed earth. It's about time we became motherfuckin’ superheroes in our own right. Jesus Christ above all.

I think it’s a good death. He died happy. He said he wanted to die, and died as a hero. He was depressed and in chronic physical and emotional pain, and didn’t really have any hope. It wasn’t as much of a gag, more like a sudden death that hurt even if not surprised

Well, it wasn't solely for the shock of it. Three other things to consider are the theme are the general theme of the movie, with characters dropping like flies throughout. You also had him more or less complete his character arc in that moment, with a pretty nice now on top save for the admittedly subpar death. But also, his power would've destroyed Starro to be honest. Killing him off was honestly the best way to have the final fight have a satisfying conclusion, since Polka Dot just blasting the eye from the ground would've been pretty underwhelming in all honesty.

I love this video. It's weird he hasn't been updated until Gunn's version, considering, if anything, he's OVERPOWERED. He has a whole arsenal of tools and weapons that are stored on his person at all times... how has he been made such a joke just vbecause of his name? They could easily update him. I'd personally mix Gunn's version with the classic... make it so he expels dots that have different effects... but I'd make it so he doesn't know how to control it and that random effects would occur. Then make him sympathetic like Mr. Freeze in that he doesn't want to commit crimes, but he needs ways to survive and make a living.

The SS movie does make him a much more interesting character. But I remember him in one of the animated shows, I think the Brave & the Bold which often used older characters from Batman's comics. But also the who's who comics. I vaguely remember a multicoloured Bat suit that may have defeated him. I can't think of another Bat baddie that might work with & there is a Lego figure of him. Have to check through Adam West's Batman villain list too as Polka-Dot sounds very 70's.

You gotta admit, his earlier origin was laughable at most i.e. creating weapons out of the dots from his costume. Not until they make it extra-terrestrial in nature which makes him cooler. Gunn's genius humorism of him fantasizing his mom onto everyone and giving the movie R rated makes him shine even more. We need more visionary directors like James Gunn in superheroes movie which I feel is becoming more boring, generic and seemingly predictable plot.

Polka-Dot Man's powers are definitely Omega LeveL. He could literally since his powers don't harm him cover himself in his spots and becomes VIRTUALLY Immune to any Physical or Energy Attacks. He can Destroy pretty much anything and if he makes himself Immune to Attacks, See were I'm going. Plus in the original comics he had specialized Dots so he could make one that can Fly, Throw mini Sun's ☀, Make a pocket Dimensions and More! Yeah just the Powers he has now and Training to Fully Control them he could definitely be a Titian of POWER and Literally untouchable. But throw in his Original Powers from his original story line and you have a God-Like Being, Only thing really missing is a lack of imagination with Polka-Dot Man and the will to use his ability to it's Real Potential.

Polka-Dot Man is powerful and a cool character, but come to think of it, his backstory is actually very sad. He mentioned in the movie that he doesn't like killing people. I just felt really bad that he is a misunderstood villain.
