I can't believe that they turned one of the most ridiculous batman villains into such a likeable character and make us heartbroken when he died
@wormybobcat37063 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly how they twist your expectations with good character writing, you go in thinking the cool looking characters will be the most fleshed out, but it’s always the more intriguing ones, the ones that seem to have nothing but their gimmick, once you add a bit of tragic backstory to one of those, you have a dangerous thing, an actually likable character.

The strange thing is if he was popular then he would not be in this film since he was picked for his poor treatment by previous writers. It is also quite saddening since his creation in '62, he was used as a joke or totally dismissed for decades. His abilities is similar to 60s Batman except more realistic and interesting. In Gunn's version his body generates the dots that can be used as weapons via technology. I think he deserves a show written by Gunn. Peacekeeper gets one which looks interesting but yoiu can do more with Abner Krill and other interesting but neglected characters. Even Condiment King could be interesting. Look at him in Batman animated series, the way he acted was like Buddy from Incredibles. He wanted to be taken seriously so he did what he could.

I just wanna say something real quick. Polka Dot Man is HELLA underrated, got to be loved by all, and is an extremely good dancer. That voiceover of him at the end whilst Ratcatcher 2 cries holding the shred of his costume, man that hit me in the feels. Not only did he not want to die by the end, but he'd probably never have guessed he'd be missed, such a nice touch on James Gunn's part to have Ratcatcher 2 carry that shred of his costume all the way to the very last shot we see of her in the film, he deserved that much at least. I also like to think (even though they showed none of this) that it was seeing Polka-Dot Man die that motivated Ratcatcher 2 to go out on top of the car during the final battle, since the last time we saw her was when she took cover earlier. All it would have taken was after seeing him get squashed just one shot of her reacting in sadness/shock, then getting up looking angrily at Starro.

The sheer happiness of realizing he is standing up for something and actually being a hero made the kid inside me very happy, but his death made my adult self respect him as he died doing something that created a whole new meaning to his life.
