The entire Westbrook part is an analogy for his career in finding rap after coming from a different background. Trying something out that seemed interesting until he realized that’s what he was meant to do. Working through being an underdog until being respected by the rap community. Crazy lyricism and overall concept.
@dbartyzel2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, Westbrook never came from a farm lol

For real man, I've watched so many reactions and no one every fully gets it. Like even just the line about the espn scouts belittling Russ for not having dedicated his life to BBall being analogous to Lil Dicky feeling like the legacy rap community not respecting him for coming to it late (among other things). Key little moments like that, that seem kind of obvious everyone misses. Its such a shame.
@andrewmcnitt80032 жыл бұрын
@@RustleInThaBush yeah I mean I’m not gonna be too hard on him, it’s tough to pick everything up on a first listen. But he does say let me think of analogy before the whole Westbrook part.

This was the song that made me take Lil Dicky seriously as an artist. He always had the jokes and some bars, but his flow on this is immaculate and the storytelling was top-tier.

The difference - It, IMHO, in whack/corny/cheesy/lame there is always a glaring weak spot. Even at his is corniest, the work is solid. The flow, the imagery, the effortless flow -- none of what I've heard is forced or overdone in the ways I associate with someone who is not serious. White crime is goofy at first, but it's some of there dark suburban alienation. It seems like first world problems, but there are real to the participants. I grew up and attended college with suburban volk. They have real problems that you can't ignore when you really *know* someone. If no real problems, no cocaine or binge drinking. Save dat money was the confirmation that he was not a fluke or one-trick novelty act. He took the time to polish details that you wouldn't bother with if you were not serious. - Hah -- greatness ain't about cake - nice.

The most Incredible thing about this is the timeline from this song. It’s even more amazing when you look at the timeline. He had NADA at this point: - This song: November 13, 2013 - His Kickstarter: November 20, 2013 (one week later) - Save Dat Money video: June 10 2015 (1.5 years later) - Professional Rapper album debut: July 31 2015, one moth later. Incredible.

I have always been one to scour the up and comers in hip-hop. I found out about LD within a couple days of Lion King. I was like “this kid’s good” but when I saw the pop with Ex-Boyfriend, I knew he would be something special. He solidified that with this track. I knew he was destined for greatness.

the Westbrook story has absolutely nothing to do with Westbrook..it is a metaphor for Dicky himself..everything he said about Russel was about him..ESPN calls and he goes and plays against some old pros..no..that's Dicky getting called up to rap in front of old rappers who didn't respect him because he does it part time as a joke..then he rapped circles around them and they respected him..
