I like that no matter how dark their music gets, there's always hope as well.

Tyler had to fight with the label to get this song on the album. They didn’t think it was a good “career move.” But suicide awareness has been something that Tyler has been passionate about from the beginning, because he understands the struggle. It’s one of the reasons he became a songwriter. This song pushes back on the tendency of the media and others to glorify or glamorize suicide. My favorite version of this is a live performance on BBC Radio 1. It’s just Tyler on the piano. It’s hauntingly beautiful and you can see the passion and emotion in his performance. But it breaks my heart when he tells us to move on and not mourn a day if he loses to those dark thoughts. 😿 But he wouldn’t want his passing to trigger others into making the same mistake. But I love that they usually end their songs on a hopeful note. I always think of Chester Bennington when I hear this song. Chester was a huge fan of twenty one pilots. I wish they had a chance to collaborate.

He is talking about how media glorifies suicide and the public romanticizing it. He has struggled with suicidal thoughts in his own life that’s depicted in a lot of their songs.

Twenty one pilots end Trench with this song. The previous album, they end with Goner. A reminder of the songwriter's struggle with depression. There's a lot to this band songs. I'll be looking for more reactions. Thank you☮️

Twenty one pilots is a band that always puts out music that helps those of us that struggle with mental illness. Tyler (the singer rapper songwriter he is amazing he writes the lyrics composes and arranges The music creates the beats plays piano keyboard synthesizer drums bass ukulele accordion guitar and several other percussion instruments and knows his way around loop boards and can do some mind blowing stuff live lol he also produces all of their music) he struggles with depression and anxiety also has dealt with suicidal thoughts and self harm but he's so devoted to helping people realize it's worth it to keep going and never giving in to those dark thoughts. You'll figure out that a great deal of their music is lyrically deep into the struggle that people go through when fighting mental illness and helping us realize that we're not alone and that it's always worth it to stay alive. This band saved my life and thousands of others as well and I don't say that in an exaggerated way like some may say I do mean literally. They have a song Truce (fire and would love to see you do a reaction but twenty one pilots doesn't have a bad song it's all such quality) the lyrics to True basic jist "stay alive stay alive for me". Subscribed for more Twenty one pilots reactions and going now to check out the other ones you've done.

I get what you're saying about not wanting to be mourned forever or remain the cause of pain for those left behind; I lost my only son 7 years ago to alcoholism and it was the most devastating loss of all the loved ones I have ever lost. Losing a child, no matter how old they are when they pass (my son was 31), is just a visceral soul deep pain beyond anything I could describe. And feeling so powerless despite all efforts to help him and to give him a sense of hope he just never could grasp, made his death all that much harder. It has taken me a long time to think of him not just with sadness and grief and heaviness but equally now with smiles and good memories and remembering his dry, sharp sense of humor and how bright he was and what a great writer he was, how he made his autistic sister laugh and played video games with her and took her out for pizza, how much he loved animals and how he would go out every month to find homeless people and buy them clothes, shoes, food,blankets, toiletries, books, etc. He had so many inner demons but he was such a good person, such a light, and we loved listening to music together and discussing music and philosophy for hours. I miss him so much but I didn't want to spend what's left of MY life (I'm 60 now) just grieving his passing in a dark negative way . I want to just feel love and light and be so grateful I got to be his mom. So I totally get what you mean. And when I die I don't want any service or funeral at all, I just want my daughters to spread my ashes somewhere in these vast flat landscapes of West Texas where I have lived my whole life so what's left of my physical presence here will still have that great bowl of sky above. And I just want them to play a few of my fave songs and write me one last 'secret note' like when they were little girls, and I want them to love the rest of their lives every day.

This song always hits. If you know the catalogue of early Twenty One Pilots songs, this is definitely something that Tyler holds close. Most of their songs have fairly dark undertones in the lyrics with a more upbeat instrumental or rap section and gallows humor or a tiny glimmer of hope, so it is not a full on depressed emo kid vibe. I think of 'Fake You Out' off a previous album Vessel just throws in a screamed line "our brains are sick and that's ok!" The instrumentals on the album Neon Gravestones came from, Trench, were probably my favorite but certainly the darkest they've done. Tyler's making it clear here that while we all have these depressed thoughts at varying degrees, to put a person ending their own life on a pedestal could then be an endorsement to those with similar thoughts to take action to give in to this sadness rather than take positive action to improve their mindset. Unfortunately in reality, if a famous artist has thousands or millions of listeners and offs themselves, the media and fans will amplify their legacy due to the art they created. And acting in a negative fashion upon our depressing thoughts gets further normalized.

AY LETS GO!!!. Nothing wrong with enjoying sad music, as long as you don't like it exclusively. Like I say, music has this amazing power of empathy ( 10:35 EXACTLY ). No need to apologize. You wouldn't apologize for enjoying "Moonlight Sonata". Several ppl have said the piano and general tone of this song reminds them of "Moonlight Sonata". Next song I send will be something more cheerful, I promise, lol.

i thought this was a great reaction - you thought through the lyrics and gave your thoughts - i'd much rather see that than someone trying to dance to this song - it's not meant for that in the bridge he's basically telling his fans that if he were to commit suicide then please don't glorify it or celebrate it - please just move on - because he wouldn't want the mistake he made to be put in a positive light and influence someone else to make the same mistake

Everyone's reasons are different but depressing dark songs just give me a voice Ive never had. Didn't have the best childhood and have struggled with vocalising how I feel even to this day at 23, bands like twenty one pilots and my other favourite band imagine dragons just see into my soul, it gives me a rush. It's crazy but every time imagine dragons put out a album it has related to that part of my life. Songs like these just helps me get through the day. Would love to see your reaction to here comes a thought by Steven universe, it's the song for when you are down and just need to feel better and not alone.

If you liked this song, you should check out Car Radio. Its way more energetic and upbeat in its tone compared to this (but not in a giddy happy way) and has some of his BEST bars about his inner thoughts about the dark things we tend to get anxious about. Its one of my favorites next to Neon Gravestones.
@bluepoison7192 Жыл бұрын
Well, the true meaning of this song, is that when celebrities commit suicide, they are glorified, but when a non famous person commits it, nobody talks about them, only they’re family members. It’s like when a celebrity dies, they have a neon gravestone, and about how suicide shouldn’t be glorified when a celebrity commits it.
