It's crazy that none of them could read music yet their creations were incredible. They wrote this song, Too Much Heaven and Shadow Dancing recorded by brother Andy all on the same day and all were number one songs. Also the Bee Gees were established in 1958 when Barry was 11 and the twins were 8. Andy was born that year.

I was at the Bee Gees' Spirits Having Flown concert in July of 1979 at Dodger Stadium. What an experience! As I recall, we arrived early and it was the summer between 6th and 7th grade for me. We were somewhere in the area of left-center field on a blanket. The place was electric. People were making human pyramids, and tossing folks up in the air using large blankets. It was like a full blown festival. As the sun started to set, the place became absolutely packed. At one point someone noticed Karen Carpenter up in the stands, club/box level (or whatever it's called) and the crowd all tried to move closer to get a better view. Then Barbara Streisand arrived and the crowd reacted in the same manner but even more so, and we almost got trampled underfoot (see how I worked in a Led Zeppelin reference there?) Anyway, during this song, Tragedy, I knew the explosion sound bit near the end of the song was coming, but I did not expect the amazing pyrotechnics that went off with what seemed like the entire upper rigging platform blasting with numerous and simultaneous explosions. That moment has forever been etched in my memory.

Lovely memories for you. Yes I saw them at Festival Hall in Brisbane Australia in 1971. They are loved here particularly as they lived in Brisbane's bayside from about 1958 to 1967. There has been a Bee Gees Way built, with statues of the boys and video clips, built for them by the seaside here at Redcliffe where they lived. Barry came out a couple of times to inspect the Way in the years since, with many members of his family present, including his wife, some of his kids, his mum, sister and Barry's best friends. So sad all his siblings and his parents have now passed. Genius writers and singers.

I am an unapologetic disco lover and aficionado, all the way through to the ultra emotional and beat/bass heavy Freestyle in the second half of the 80’s and early 90’s. If you don't know, they are brothers and there was a 4th one called Andy who died early on in their career. One of my favourites was Massachusetts, you should check it out. I am sure you've heard of Lulu (To Sir with Love) and she was married to Maurice Gibb. Anyway love your channel and look forward to more. Heard of Gary Pucket and the Union Gap? Also, the Gibb brothers (Barry, Robin, Maurice) were EXCELLENT songwriters. They not only wrote ALL their songs, but they wrote hits for others. In the 70’s-80’s, everything they put out (either for themselves or as writers & producers for others), those songs became hits! Please do songs recorded by other artists that The Bee Gees wrote. Some include: If I Can't Have You (Yvonne Elliman) -- went to #1 Woman in Love ( Barbra Streisand)- went to #1!. In fact, The Bee Gees wrote every song on her Guilty CD, and Barry did 2 duets with her. And he did most of the background vocals on a lot of the songs. They won a Grammy for best song by a group or duo for Guilty. Islands in the Stream (Kenny Rogers & Dolly Partons) - went to #1. In fact, The Bee Gees wrote all the songs on Kenny's "Eyes that See in the Dark" CD with Barry doing a lot of background vocals. Heartbreaker (Deion Warwick). In fact, The Bee Gees wrote every song on this CD too. This was her best selling CD! The Bee Gees also did the Background vocals. Chain Reaction (Diana Ross) - went to #1 in several European countries! And yes, The Bee Gees wrote all the songs on this CD too. Barry also did the background vocals. Immortality (Celine Dion) The Bee Gees (went to number 1 in several countries),also sung background. The live 1997 from Vegas is excellent! More Than a Woman (Tavares) Love Me (Yvonne Elliman) Come on Over (Olivia Newton John) Emotions (Samantha Sang, with a lot of background vocals with Barry). Destiny's Child also recorded it. Grease--from the movie (Frankie Valli), went #1 Heart Beating in Time (Leo Sayer) Let me wake up in your arms (Lulu), who use to be married to Maurice Gibb A lot of Andy Gibb songs (Shadow Dancing, Everlasting Love, Love is Thicker than Water, Our Love, Don't Throw It Away; Desire;). Andy's 3 released solo songs all went to #1!

This is the music of my formative early childhood years. My mom had a lot of their records and we had this on 45 and I would always get up and dance to it. I had their box set on cassette! This and "You Should Be Dancing" were essential disco dance tracks and if they don't make you move there's something wrong with you. Disco flashed so high that when it crashed it was big, and the Bee Gees and others who were known for that music fell hard and it was difficult for them to recover. Disco and disco dancing got TRASHED by society and really never recovered. As with many things, time changes how you look at it and now I'm glad people can recognize this music in the spirit of it's fun, driving beat. The Bee Gees' voices were indeed heavenly when all together. I think Barry's falsetto is the 70s version of Frankie Valli's from the late 50s/early 60s - check out Walk Like A Man as an example. He too tried to get in on the disco thing (listen to Swearin' to God).

It wasn’t enough that the Bee Gees owned the disco era, they wrote #1 hits for other artists during and after their 1970s peak.

Check out "This is Where I Came In." I would love to buy you a cup of coffee but I have breast cancer and lots of medical bills. I love watching your reactions. You are always insightful.

One of my favorite Bee Gees songs, “ Will you still love me tomorrow”, actually one of the few cover songs they made, but one that is very different from the original. Please check it out.
