i agree. i normally shy away from live versions of songs, but the version they captured for salival is as wild a ride as the album version. this song is so ridiculous, even to attempt to play it live shows extreme ambition. the live version hinges on adam's performance, which always feels like it's on the edge, but when it soars... even as great as Tool are live, their art is crafted to perfection on their studio albums. that said, eye cannot fucking wait for the official live dvd they're working on from the lateralus tour.

I gave up drugs and alcohol nearly 29 years ago, no regrets. I had some good times, listened to great music in altered states. However, I find it a greater feeling when a band, like Tool, can take me on a journey sober. Y’all do you, much love. Love the reactions Polo, you an I have a similar musical outlook and vibe.

I can't stand being in an altered state, especially if I go to a show or music festival... I risk forgetting half of the cool stuff tha happens on stage. Tickets are expensive, I want to milk the experience for all it's worth and live it fully (including remembering it).

Whatever I've been sober for about 10 years now started my first drink at 16 years old from family relative and then spiraled out into narcotics all different stuff so quickly then prostitutes gambling I have finally found the strength do I come on and the thing that okay it's over now because I don't think so I think it's really one day at a time and the truck started their it's because of the song though I love you and your expressions man you are awesome just so you know as well the beats to the song as you mentioned the sort of like a tribal so at the beginning of the song was the blue and shimmering eyes talking that theirs third eye helps him then he lost it.. but he didn't lose it.. Just wanted to hide a lil because of his actions(drugs or alcohol) .. Lord Shiva never leaves anyone that's in need . It's obvious with the prying opens my third eye , he thinks it's easy.. but. You cannot do certain things and expect the Lord Shiva to be there.. ❤️

I haven't really looked at them for years, but I do have a bankers box full to the brim of CDs and this is one of them. Oddly enough, I do not recall hearing this song before. I really thought you nailed it perfectly with your analysis of the cut. I love the song, even though at times it's so heavy and full of distortion. In the end, it's perfect because to me it represents how a heavy narcotic of hallucinogen is going to hit you. It's overpowering and still, if you ride it out and experience it, it opens you up and gives you a new perspective with which to view things. Tool is such a great band. So creative. I love how you said you can always tell it's Tool, but none of their songs are the same. And always those perfect tribal drums~

I always wanted to know what was making the sound you're hearing around 10:42. It sounds like a guitar being dragged through gravel. The voice at the beginning about drugs is the late comedian Bill Hicks. "See, I think drugs have done some good things for us, I really do" "And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor" "Go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your CDs and burn 'em" "'Cause you know what? The musicians who've made all that great music" "That's enhanced your lives throughout the years?" "Real fucking high on drugs" "Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration" "That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively" "There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves" "Here's Tom with the weather" "It's not a war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom, that's what it is, okay?" "Keep that in mind at all times, thank you" Dreaming of that face again It's bright and blue and shimmering Grinning wide and comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes On my back and tumbling Down that hole and back again Rising up and wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye In Out In Out A child's rhyme stuck in my head It said that life is but a dream I've spent so many years in question To find I've known this all along So good to see you I've missed you so much So glad it's over I've missed you so much Came out to watch you play Why are you running away? Came out to watch you play Why are you running? Shrouding all the ground around me Is this holy crow above me Black as holes within a memory And blue as our new second sun I stick my hand into his shadow To pull the pieces from the sand Which I attempt to reassemble To see just who I might have been I do not recognize the vessel But the eyes seem so familiar Like phosphorescent desert buttons Singing one familiar song So good to see you I've missed you so much So glad it's over I've missed you so much Came out to watch you play Why are you running away? Came out to watch you play Why are you running away? Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye So good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding And you thought that I had run away Chasing the tail of dogma I opened my eye I opened my eye I opened my eye I opened my eye I opened my eye I opened my eye I opened my eye and there we were So good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me And you thought that I had run away Chasing a trail of smoke and reason Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye Prying open my third eye

I don't necessarily think you have to be "zooted" at the time to fully appreciate TOOL, but I think you definitely have to have spent time "zooted" in your life at some point to appreciate them properly. At the time of this album's release, they used to *open* the show with this song. 14 minutes of audio terror to *begin* a concert.

This song counted up to number 69 on the CD and the first time I got it in the 90s, it scared me and I jumped bc I wasn't expecting it. Lol. Good stuff.

This is the perfect song to react to on Bicycle Day. April 19th, 1943 Albert Hofmann took the worlds first intentional dose of LSD and went on a transformative bike ride. This song is heavily influenced by psychedelics, down to the Bill Hicks sound bites in the beginning.

This entire album, and especially this song, literally knocks me out when I listen to it. Either I end up in an almost trance state, or I end up passing out. No drugs needed, since it is just that good.

Mushrooms and third eye changed my life, to somebody who’s never experienced this they hear what I’m saying and blow it off as cringe or drug induced werido hippy type shit, I’ve been completely sober off all drugs for almost a year because of this band I gave up all drugs to pursue music, music is my high now and I never would’ve done that without Tool or psychedelics

I just this week finished a painting of Maynard, acrylic on canvas. Could send you a pic of it if you'd like. I'm calling it "Determination". Part of a series of seven of vocalists toward a January exhibition.

This track takes a while to fully internalise. This one will fully fall into place for you down the line more than right here and now. But the fact that you got as much out of it as you did here bodes well for your future relationship with this song. It is very much its own beast, even in Tool's world, and that affects how listeners get into it. Or, not, as a few fans may say. This track is, to me, the ultimate litmus test for Tool. If you can get into any of this at all, then you'll probably appreciate Tool's music. If you can't get anything at all from it, then probably nothing else from their songbook will register on any level. Glad you enjoyed it, Sir. You'll hear it grow, the more you listen to it. You may even hear you grow with it.
