Polybutylene pipes: a ticking time bomb for water leaks

In central WI we have miles of PB water laterals that are ticking time bombs as the chlorine in the municipal water system causes the PB to become brittle over time and susceptible to catastrophic failure.

We got a lot of Poly B in Vancouver. Always wondered if I was making too big of a deal out of it. I guess not!

We have a house now with Polybutylene tubing. Partial, from the main water valve over to the hot water heater and connection to the cold water. Had Polybutylene in a prior old house. Never any problems with Polybutylene tubing. For fun, I might replace the Polybutylene in the current house with 1" PEX. Just for fun.

Yes sir. 5 leaks this summer (2 about 10 inch apart in same line). Just repiped my whole 1987 Las vegas house.
