I have to say, it feels pretty rewarding to speak all 3 languages and fully understand the presentation.

This needs closed captions, in multiple languages. Surely there is a polyglot at the conference who would take it as a challenge to provide them for those who speak 2 of the 3 languages of this presentation.
@Pakanahymni8 жыл бұрын
I don't think that giving out a presentation in multiple languages is good practice, Polyglot Gathering or not. The more languages you use the more people in your crowd you alienate. I could follow the German if the sound quality were better but French I don't know at all.

They repeated everything in the other languages. This was perfectly fine. The German, as well as the audio quality was pretty great.

@@thevitruvianman9781 Is telling someone to "shut up" your way of expressing acceptance of others' opinions? That speaks volumes about your character. The truth is, this talk was very confusing and and a fantastic waste of time for obvious reasons. Oh, and I won't be reading your lame response.

Yeah, in the end of the day is just a gimmick and a show off. And it ends being just a showing of european languages. Let´s give a talk in thai and see what ppl think

I have used the old Assimils (French, German, Russian) and the new ones (French, Italian). I cannot believe how much worse the new ones are. They lack the fluidity, the easiness, and the sense of humour of the old ones, which were absolutely fantastic methods.

You likely would have more success by contacting the publisher of Michel Thomas or Pimsleur company. Pimsleur would even create a comprehensive program if there are enough requests sent to their website. Assimil had about eight years of petition in creating an Icelandic with Ease. They did release a beginner program, presumably to A2 level, but don't seem to interested in going any further. The guy in the video was given information to contact an Icelandic professor who was interested in creating an Icelandic with Ease course and he (Philippe) implied he would contact him, but never did.

I understand that the English/ French/ German triage was a means to keep the presentation interesting but do they know there are other people watching too? Especially if you upload the video to YT? I'm just learning French, don't understand a word of German so can you put up the English subtitles for those of us who don't understand French and/or German and are still looking foward to this video? Please? We would be really grateful.
@PolyglotGathering7 жыл бұрын
We're a conference by polyglots for polyglots, so everyone in the room understood these languages (average participant understands 8 languages). Videos are provided as a courtesy only, chiefly for those participants who weren't able to attend two lectures at the same time. Since we're completely community-run and earning zero income on each conference (and not receiving any income from video uploads either), we cannot pay for video subtitles. If there are volunteers who send us subtitles for any of the talks, we will of course upload them. :)

the main problem of this video, is that it's mostly in German. I speak French and English and I don't understand half of the video. The part where Phillipe speaks about Irish, no translation, at the end, someone asked about a question in English, he answered in German (still no translation). If the conference was full German I wouldn't have cared. Using the "avg people understand 8 languages" is quite excluding and patronising. Maybe you could open community captions and people could translate the section that are not in English.

@ursinodepeluche6 жыл бұрын
Doch wiegesagt interessierte mich, was ich wirklich konnte.

at 41:54 What did Philippe say about Irish and Icelandic Assimil?
@philippegagneur65489 жыл бұрын
For Irish it is not difficult to write a phrasebook, but very difficult to write a complete course... because of the regional diversity of this language.

Bonjour Luiz Lucena, Merci pour le compliment... but my german is not 100% perfect and I have still "un petit accent français";. I'm living in germany and I hear and speak german every day.
