My mind is blown at all the stuff that can be done with polymer clay. Like if a person wanted they could then finish the inside with a faux mother of pearl inlay or some faux gemstone made with polymer clay. It's like it gives you access it a million different materials that you can all make with different techniques with the clay. I just wish the clay was a bit cheaper so larger projects were more practical like doing a nice overlay to make fancy pots for indoor houseplants or like a hanging mural of tiles for a wall I think would be a really cool idea.

@@deedoubleu2611 Hi Dee, yes of course you can cover a ceramic box, you can normally cover a glass one, a Paper Mache one too, and several people have covered wooden boxes with polymer clay. Search on KZbin for covering boxes in Polymer Clay, I had a quick look as I was going to give you a link, but there were literally loads to choose from, so it's better if you see if one sparks your interest instead ;) I wasn't planning on covering a ready made box, as it has been done before, but I have covered a glass bauble/ornament with glittered strips of clay, so the technique is the same, you could check out this one of mine, and apply the technique to other canes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imKlaJeli7B6gK8 I have recently put a tutorial on Etsy, which is triangular canes and square canes covering a round glass bauble/ornament too, not that I am suggesting you buy it, but as I have done one people are paying for, it is unlikely that I will do something similar for free for a while, if that makes sense? I hope at least something I have mentioned helps, and that you have great fun experimenting :)

Hi Fiona- I know you may not see this since it isn't a new video, but I wanted to leave it anyway just in case. This is the 2nd time I'm watching this tutorial & I can not wait to give it a try. When I 1st saw it I felt very intimidated & thought that I probably couldn't do it, no matter how badly I wanted to. But you just explain & teach everything so clearly & perfectly & you break everything down in such a way that it makes us feel like we can actually do it, and trust me, most people do not have that ability while teaching/explaining. This box is absolutely beautiful, i can't even get over it. You amaze me so much. There are a few polymer clayers out there on youtube who are absolutely incredible & I'd be so lucky & thankful to have even the tiniest fraction of their ability, but you really are on a whole other level. You're a true artist. You come up with AMAZING projects & pieces & canes and I just don't understand how you do it but it's so incredible to see. Your creativity & talent is truly out of this world. And it is so so so very kind and generous of you to actually share all that with us. Your projects are always like works of art and you spend all that time and effort & I'm sure much aggravation & so much clay & planning just so you can share it with us. And like I said before, you are the BEST most patient & clearest teacher ever. I still feel intimidated to attempt making this box but it's so incredible that I just have to try. And you have made me feel like I can actually do it! I am incapable of designing a cane or anything like that, I'm just not creative or talented enough. I could never even choose color combinations on my own because I always think they'll look bad together. And I'd never in a million years think to use the colors you have used for this box together as you did, I would never be brave or bold enough to. But you did and they are GORGEOUS together. Alright, I'll stop rambling now. Every time I leave you a comment it ends up being more like an essay, sorry. I just think you are so amazing & I wanted to tell you how very much you are appreciated. So thank you again, so much

Hi Fiona ,, I absolutely love the design its so very wimsical and I love the butterfly's 🦋 I ordered some dishes 6 in a set of porcelain ones, and polymere clay,, the trinket box you done in this video would also look fantastic,, like you did the other ones in your previous trinket box video as its easy for beginners,, I would have put a cone in the middle of the one in this video, in a black or color that matched the pattern. So you could just lift it up by the cone or hexagonal spire. I don't have a pasta machine any more so have to use the old method of rolling it even and to the right thickness. But I'll work around it.just imagine a perfume bottol done this way square would probably be the easiest way around that, if using the idea of the previous trinket box where the perfume shows through the shapes, for a refillable bottle only using one color clay,, so the perfume color shows through,, i have an Egyptian perfume bottle encrusted with crystals ,that i got from Amazon, looks beautiful. variation on theme I suppose!!! Take care 😃🦋💐

Fiona, wow. Ive watched hundreds of tutorials. Im a novice and trying to come along in in poly clay. I have found ur tutorials to be the best. This has been the most informative video ive ever seen. Bless u for giving so much info on one video. I can follow ur creative process as u create this cane as well as the technical aspects. U are a awesome teacher. Im still having problems fiqureing out how to determinehow much clay to use. How big to make my cane etc. but i followed ur tutorial and my box is coming alone well. Now is the hard part finishing the cane and arranging on the box. Still having problems reducing without distorting. Sigh. Oh well. Ill Keep practicing. Ive watched ur reducing process closely. Just cant seem to get my cane not to distort. Thank you for ur generous sharing.
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Karen, that is a wonderful compliment. I am so happy you are enjoying the tutorials :) Yes reducing is the one thing that really only comes with practice and patience. I actually don't press in that hard down each side, it is a gentle but even pressing in, while sort of pulling outwards, again very gently at the same time. It is the amount of repetitions of doing this, the same motion down one side, then turn repeat, turn repeat that is the key. The first few times it hardly moves at all, but then, as you get the inner bits of clay starting to reduce as well, it moves on more quickly. The good thing is, that it is like riding a bike, once it suddenly clicks, and your fingers get the right pressure and motion, you have it, and you are off and will never look back. The main thing always is to have fun and enjoy it :)

WOW! Stunning tutorial and stunning result. You are so brilliant to give us mere mortals the instructions to create the form to make the box. The cane you used is s gorgeous, looking simple yet complicated to make. I need to practice more on creating kaleidoscope canes that I am happy with. You are a true artist with polymer clay. TFS
