In this tutorial I’ll show you how to create Faux Abalone with polymer clay. It’s a technique that can be manipulated to create many other faux shells which I’ll be showing in future.
Today I’ll show you how to create a bowl, but you can use the effect on pendants, collars, bracelets and many other projects.

Thank you for taking your time to make such detailed and useful tutorials. I like using a lot of these textures for the backs and structures of different awards that I make for my students. Making my own medallions and pin-back awards has been much more cost effective and the finished products are far cooler than anything mass produced. Again, thank you. You’re the best! :)

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am new to polymer clay and I’ve looked for different ways of making a veneer for vases and I love this. I had to watch it with the volume down because my husband is asleep. I shared it with myself which by the way is a great way of helping our VLOGers. Anyhow I will watch it again when I can listen and learn more. You’re awesome. Keep it up! 🤟🏼🤍

I must say you are both an excellent teacher & very talented artist 💜 I always enjoy your tutorials & I've learned soooooo much from you. You are the reason I've decided to try polymer clay again after playing around with it only a little bit about 15 yrs ago. One day a video of yours popped up in my recommendations about 6 or 8 months ago. I thought it'd be interesting to watch someone create out of clay. I've been totally obsessed ever since. I've been watching clay videos on YT constantly trying to learn as much as I could before investing in supplies & getting started in it. Before when I dabbled with clay, I knew VERY little about it. I burned everything I baked or I under baked it & it later broke. I quickly became very frustrated & gave up. This time, thanks to you & other wonderful artist I have a much better knowledge base to get started with. I now have a good supply & tool stash & I've just got to finish getting my work room set up. I'm sooo excited & I can't wait to get started. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge & talent 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Wonderful tutorial. Thanks for discussing some of the intricacies of mokume gane. While it is an easy technique where you can just fly by the seat of your pants (my usual method), it does take some thought to achieve sublime results like you have with this project. By the way, I love all of the faux techniques you have developed.

Hi Samantha. A little info for you... Pāua shell and Abalone shell are actually the same shells. Pāua is the Māori name given to three species of large edible sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs which belong to the family Haliotidae, known in the United States and Australia as abalone, and in the United Kingdom as ormer shells.

It would be nice if you would say every time you put the clay through the pasta machine the thickness of it. Either by mm or setting nr. Cause I’m confused about how thin it’s supposed to be after the skinner blend, when you make it longer. But like ur video, even though I would have liked abit more instruction/detail info. 😉

Can you use food safe mod pod gear on these?
@andie2439
@andie2439 4 жыл бұрын
If you mean the dishwasher safe mod podge, no. Its not food safe. If you mean the mod podge acrylic sealer, yes, but you need to let it fully cure (30 days). Most polyurethane varnishes are food safe once cured but check and be sure. Regular mod podge (brush on), including the dishwasher safe one, are not food safe!
