In this tutorial we will be making a beautiful Winter's Night polymer clay bib necklace with earrings to match.
The result is really eye-catching, but you will find that it is so simple to make. The project consists of simple elements of mica shift and texture, with a few slices of snowflake cane to give that wintery feel. I'll show you tips and tricks to get your veneer nice and flat and how to achieve a smooth, glassy finish.
In order to complete this project, you will need a translucent snowflake cane. The link to the tutorial for this is in the description below.

Hi there! Great question!! I just ordered from Amazon all kato clays.. They by weight were cheaper than sculpy and fimo. I was able to get the kato concentrated color 4 block set for under 4 dollars in the primary colors and 5 dollars for the 4pack of pink,red,orangeand yellow. The translucent one by kato is 12.5 oz for just over 10 dollars and sculpy was around 8 dollars for 8 ounces.. Same with the black. I saw several comments about how the clay left color on their fingers. This she covered and about the conditioning of concentrated kato clay.. This tutorial was awesome!!!

The translucent used in this project is such a small amount compared to the other colors that using premo translucent with fimo should be fine. I tend to use premo translucent a lot when I'm making canes with kato and wish to pack it with translucent. It works out just fine.

Beautiful Snowflakes! Can we just assume that all of the cords and holes in the cord covers are always 1mm in all of your tutorials? Or maybe you could put the diameters in the list of supplies. I hate to keep asking, but I am such a novice about things like that. Many thanks in advance.

For Charlotte crimps and the crimps used with them yes the hold is always 1mm. For the crimps I used in this tutorial I used these crimps as they have a 2mm hole. www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h20a8677fn In other tutorials I'll some times use a 3mm hole crimp depending on how large the cord is. www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h20a8681fn I don't tend to use any other ends in tutorials.

I am so new to this and you are my only teacher because you explain things so well, finish your projects with exquisite details and have such a wonderful imagination for design. Your work is always inspiring...still, I have questions. Can you say what size diamond cutter you used? And does all rattail cord come in 2mm? That's mostly what I find on Etsy. I may have already asked on this same comment page what size circle cutter you use when making up your color blends. Oh! And the findings. Fire Mountain Gems, like you, get their products off right away and they have so many products. What size are the crimps and Charlotte crimps? I see the circle links from pendant to the cord is large, can you help me with the size. This post isn't new so I'm not certain you'll get this barrage of questions - I am sorry I have so many. If you can't see this I do offer so many thanks for all of the wonderful things you keep teaching. You are amazing!
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
Okay. I've since sold the piece so I'll try to get the measurements right. The diamond cutters were 4.5cm long. You can get bugtail which is 1mm in diameter. You can get mousetail which is 1.5mm in diameter and you can get rattail with is 2mm in diameter. These are the crimp ends I used in the video. www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h20a8681fn The links on the ends were I think about 1.5cm in diameter.

Tell me about diluting the mica particles. Could you not just use ultramarine blue alone. And how do I know when mixing colors, what will be a problem as far as the mica particles? By the way, I think that you do some of the most beautiful work and you are very good at giving instructions. I love your videos.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
You want to start with a metallic clay. They the right amount of mica powders. If you want to color that clay with a clay that doesn't have mica particles you want to find a way to use as little of the none metallic clay as possible, because it will dilute the mica particle in the mica clay and the mica shift will come out looking weak.

You've taken so much time to figure out just how to replicate the blue, not to mention the disgn of the necklace and earrings. I found the concentrated blue but not the concentrated magenta. Maybe I read your list wrong?! I forgot to say how beautiful the necklace and earrings are! They are wonderful! What size are the circle cutters you're using to make your blends? Is this the size you almost always use for recipe’s? In the video I think you said all of the clay was Kato. Pearl and translucent as well. On the list the pearl and, if you mentioned it, the translucent was Premo. I think I recall your having said in an altogether separate video that the properties of Premo translucent went better with blues while the Kato was more suited for yellows. Do I have that right? Either way, for the pieces you made would you say you only used Kato? I’ll experiment more on my own down the line. Right now I am more interested in the right techniques you show us. Thank you!
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about the magenta, that's just plain kato magenta. The size circle I usually use for color recipes is about 2cm in diameter. The color recipe is all kato, but I did use plain pearl white premo and a premo snowflake cane. In a previous video I said that premo translucent was good for warm colors while the premo white translucent is good for cool colors. The kato translucent is okay for any color recipe.

If the Uv resin isn't cure properly it will yellow. Also if the jewelry is exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, it'll yellow. However, I've had pieces inside for over 7 years and they haven't yellowed.
