With how Scott and Tim shred it would be silly to try to outshine them technically, he brought the musicality that is unique only to Vai and played to that strength and it made the song so goddamn good.

@@nighght2789 You realize Vai can shred even better than them, right? Vai can come up with shit like this ON THE SPOT. He's from a different generation. @@Blackshine1985 I see no killswitch mounted anywhere (I'm very familiar with their usage, I have some on a handful of my own guitars, quite a fan of Buckethead), and it's obvious from the two tiny switches near the control knobs he's using a Sustainiac system. Could be using (in studio, since ya know, nothing's plugged in for the video) a pedal to kill things, true enough (before I wired my killswitches, I'd use a tuner). But rather than "just as hard as turning a lightswitch on and off" was uncalled for.

Out of all the shred generation of guitarists from the 80/90s, Steve Vai seems like the only one who always seems genuinely thrilled by seeing new talents coming up and taking music in new directions. Love the song, love the playing, love the players but with all due respect, I have to be honest, on the last few songs they've put out I'm not really liking the drum sounds. Kinda wimpy in my opinion. If you're going to use real drums and then process them to sound like a beat box, then just use a beat box. I get that they're trying to be different with the drum sound and they're trying to break new ground but personally, I'm just not feeling it. Sorry I know I'll be in the minority but that's how I feel.

Vai shows that after all these years he is still willing to push himself. Not easy to go into a room as "Steve Vai" with arguably the hottest guitar players on the planet and challenge yourself to do something new. He could easily just make a living playing For The Love of God to nostalgic oldschoolers but rather is willing to step out of his comfort zone. That is ego death. Same props too Polyphia for honouring Vai in such an authentic way, realising that they stand on the shoulders of giants.

That's the thing about that style of guitarists. You can find thousands of people who play technical stuff like Polyphia, but nobody but Steve Vai could play what he played and make it sound like it did. Reminds me of guys like Derek Trucks. Derek Trucks is one of a kind, nobody on Earth sounds like him. I think Steve Vai is the same way. He added another facet of character and musicianship that you just never hear on a Polyphia record, which is full of so many vast techniques already.

My Father introduced me into the world of music a couple decades ago starting with Steve Vai, along with other great bands and guitarists. He's been to Vai's concerts mutiple times. Then he took me to one of the Guinness World Record of simultaneous guitar playing in Wrocław, in Poland years back, when Tommy Emmanuel was touring. I cannot thank him enough for all those memories and more. Was he still with us today, he would have shed a tear while enjoying every single note and sound played in this track, just as I am in tears today still, since it got released. This piece truly is a gap-link between generations of music. I stand in awe. I honestly cannot wait what's next... Polyphia and Steve Vai outdid themselves on every possible level with this one, all presenting their unique styles of play. I only wish I was able to share that amazing experience with my Father... Thank you kindly for this how remarkable masterpiece of music. Best regards, Chris

It happened to me once , I was in my home studio playing shit with my archetype plini plugin , my dad , who has always been a bluesy boomer guitarist just stopped for once , and he was interested in the sound of the guitar going through my PC , so I handed it to him , and I made some loops in Ableton, he dropped a damn good riff , took a mic and just blew up some lyrics like if he was beck or something, it was magical We always struggled playing together because we're not very good musicians and he never showed interest in production, and it never happened again , but it happened once , and I'm so grateful for that

@@harrydehnhardt5092 I get where you're coming from. Polyphia's chord progressions are usually very simple, and I myself wish at times that they would go a bit more wild in that regard (although every now and then there are indeed some spicy chords mixed in, although they usually come and go very quickly). However, how the chords are played of course can also make the music very interesting and fun to listen to. Every now and then I come accross a classical guitar piece where at first I sniff my nose and think, meh, boring chord progression, but then later go, okay wait, this is actually super cool, because the chords are played in such a creative way. Nice arpeggios, variation in sound colouring, weird jumps, nice motifs worked into it. And I think on that front Poyphia really excell!
