But only because your vids are all so colorful and perspicuous. The visuals are always spot on and honestly beautiful. Great work and great beard bro!! 🎉🎉🎉

dude poly (noah) i can’t stress enough how cool this channel is to me. music has always been an integral part of my life. funny enough i finally got my dream job of working at a record shop 2 years ago. a huge reason i even got the job was because i had become so obsessed with albums because of YOUR videos. fast forward to now my time at the record shop has proven fruitful i’ve made tons of friends who love music as much as i. if you’re ever in the nashville area visit the shop you would love it :)

I was expecting a clean shaven nerdy looking fellow but regardless, your million subscribers is not only a result of excellent research but also the quick pace of your voice and fact that your don’t waste words while delivering your in-depth content. You also get right into the meat of the subject right away. Many other KZbin’s spend too much time on every video with a repetitious intro and asking people to subscribe. Keep it up! 👍🏻

The reason why you got to 1M subs is because you do EXCELLENT work. It's thoughtful and well thought out, it's visually beautifully presented, it's accurate and fact-based, and the opinions you offer are quite fair and couched within a big picture perspective. So yeah, we love what you do and are grateful to have someone as high quality as you do videos about a subject most of us are deeply in love with - music. Thanks and congrats! Two requests, if I may be so bold: Tame Impala and Elton John. But only when the mood and willpower strikes!

Congrats on the million, Noah. I subbed based on Ghost Notes - you're clearly just a good dude, and so thoroughly into music that you more than deserve the recognition. And the fact that I watch your vids when I also am a major music nerd, already know most of the stuff you bring up (and even have some nits to pick from time to time... but they're nits, nothing major, and no I won't mention any here)... I don't really "learn" much from your videos, but I ENJOY them. Because your enthusiasm is infectious. So the only reason I listened to Worry! is because you mentioned it in passing on a video and I was like "I'm gonna check that out" and now I'm a huge advocate of it. Mind blowing experience. Mind you it also got me into the band PUP because after that album was done they would always start playing. Listening to worry! and unraveling of pup the band are the first two albums in years that made me feel like I was in highschool discovering a new band and sound. So thank you for that. Fantastic video! Thank you! I think you should make a video on Jazz Fusion - Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra (first 2 albums are incredible), Return To Forever, Weather Report... How social & cultural changes of the late 60's fusioned jazz and rock, and how it became an indulgent irrelevance by the late 70's. I think it'll be a great story. 👍

My great happiness in this video is to see that my favorite channel on KZbin was a channel that I followed the growth. Your voice was one of the best companies during the isolation period. As someone who loves a very diverse range of music I am also very happy to see the collapsing - or at the very least, the increased permeability - of established genres. I write (though haven't recorded stuff yet - and need to pull together a band to do so) And my stuff has always been born out of 90s and early 00s alt-rock but with definite hardcore, metal & prog influences. Add to that a healthy love of jazz, indie pop, 80s synth & new wave, folk rock, musical theatre etc. Also some British specific genres I suppose. Worth checking out 'Akala', a political British hip-hop artist who left me trying to pick my jaw up off the floor when I heard both his song 'find no enemy' and his Radio one 'Fire in the booth' stint. You end up with . . . What I can only describe as 'imagine if Radiohead got angry instead of sad' 😂 With regards to genre? I'd say - there are no 'bad genres' . . . Only 'bad songs'

You should do a video covering music in film, if you wanted to talk about film on this channel. There are a lot of cool topics you could cover when looking at music in film. You could talk about classic soundtracks or scores, you could also talk about concept albums being turned into movies. A video comparing the film adaptations of Tommy and Quadrophenia would be interesting to compare how both movies incorporate the music from the Who. The Rolling Stones in Cinema is also a topic I'm fascinated with. Their songs get licensed for movies way more than the Beatles, and it would be interesting to see how their music has been incorporated in film over the years, including being featured in multiple Scorsese and Wes Anderson movies.

I listen to music in the same way, all the way back to the 70’s. I admit that I had bell bottoms, I was moving with the groove but I had already started listening to the Beatles/Stones/Kinks/Led Zeppelin out of their time. I got caught in a heavy metal moment but then steeped myself in the older AC/DC, Black Sabbath records. As I’ve become more lost in the now, I reach back into artists that have been referenced. It started out in my teens, seeking out old blues artists. The only band that I hooked on in their time was Radiohead. A band out of time, like the best of prog/experimental rock. It’s still happening to this day as my MS makes it near impossible to listen to digital as it’s too painful for my ears. I love loud music but most digital is just painful because of the nerve damage. I had left music for 15+ years due to this issues but after being diagnosed and understanding what has happened to my brain, I dusted off my old records and bought records that were missing. It has brought so much joy; kindled the child that fell in love with music. I think you will get back to your loves as you realize that sometimes our musical/cultural heroes are not the folks we expect them to be. Miles is a troublesome character but his talent is the beauty of his life so I go with that.

Wanted to drop a couple music recommendations here, since you mentioned not knowing a lot of modern music or being into EDM. I'm not super big on EDM either, but there are a few artists that I really love. Firstly outside of EDM, I really recommend String Cheese Incident. They're a killer jam band, that play a bit of bluegrass, psychedelic rock, and even sometimes some almost EDM-esque songs, but instrumentally. They release a lot of their concert recordings on Spotify, and they're great. Jacob Collier is another modern artist that is amazing, a bit more in the pop sphere, but with a huge variety of other genre influence. Also a killer concert. For EDM my number one recommendation would be Spoonbill. He's an Australian artist from Melbourne, and a big part of what makes me love his music despite my general neutrality towards EDM is the integration of instruments into it and the general musicality. He has an excellent understanding of percussion, and you can really feel the motion in his music. In my opinion, his Album Tinkerbox is a great place to start, as it is downtempo and very instrumental, while his EPs generally tend to be more upbeat party songs. They still slap though, because of how well he does the rhythm and percussion. I also think Shpongle is a great artist in that sphere, though he is very much a psychedelic electronic artist, with his music heavily influenced by them. He's most known for his music having in many cases hundreds of different layers, and being exceptionally complex while still holding onto the core of the music. I really don't know how to describe his music, other than it sounds like how extremely high dose of psychedelics feels. Tipper is another great artist out there. I don't listen to him as much because he doesn't really use instruments in his music often, let alone in the very prominent ways that Shpongle and Spoonbill do, but he's still a very skilled artist in his own right. One of the things that he is particularly known for is the cleanliness of his mastering which, along with his sick record scratching skills, is practically clean enough to do surgery with

Congrats on hitting a milly! Do you listen to Synthwave at all? That might be a good transition into EDM. Back in the day I used to like The Prodigy and Daft Punk, but that kinda fizzled out. With Synthwave, I started with Lazerhawk, Gunship and Trevor Something then found out about Gesaffelstein, which is more like "hardcore" EDM, but the YT algo works in mysterious ways. My wife recently got me into Sofi Tukker, that's a really unique EDMish sound. I think it would be right up your ally since they have a lot of influences from other genres incorporated.

Dude have you every made the pilgrim to Hibbing MN? Could be a fun place for a Polyphonic meet up... Used to live 5 minutes away in high school. Maybe I could be an impromptu tour guide next winter when I'm back stateside. ;)

There also used to be Dylan Days there on Memorial weekend but I don't know if they still do it anymore since interest died down.
