Is this genetic? You said quarter horses, thinking that Paint horses are "rrelatives" with quarter horses, would they have it on its gen´s some way? I just lost a foal that got paralyzed from one day to the other and I am still trying to figure out what it was, and I really think is this disease, since I don´t know who was his father. He was mixed brazilian mangalarga, but I never heard about this in mangalargas, but I think his father was maybe a quarter horse, once he was a painted horse

Yes, for the PSSM type 1 it has been identified a gene mutation as the cause of the abnormal glycogen storage. It can be found also in QH relative breeds. Signs can be quite similar to an acute episode of rhabdomyolysis. Check also this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGq9mmCrqbiAaZY
