You could make lots small ones by doing the loom and cutting through all of the threads effectively separating the blanket into pieces?

Hi Alison i saw on one of your tutorials making a pompom blanket on a loom you used a shuttle you tied it at the first corner do you tie it at each end of the row? If not how does it not all come undone i have always tied each knot as you did on your first tutorial. Can you explain please.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 4 жыл бұрын
some go from line to line and you dont need to tie at each end. You do that for diagonal or pattern ones but most pom pom ones get tied row after row when you do the 1st bottom row you go up to the next row. so its right to left (if your right handed) the next row just go up and work left to righ

So I watched your other video on how to make a nail loom. I'm a dude and not too interested in looming (is that a word?) but I am looking at making a bunch of pom poms for a project. Go figure huh? LOL so after watching the other video this Is my idea. I take an 8 foot 2 x 4. My plan is just to have two wooden dowels. One at each end. I drill the appropriate size hole for a large wooden dowel at each end. Put it in the hole with a little wood glue. Bam, I'm done. I don't necessarily need all of the other wooden dowels in between because I'm not ever going to loom with this. I'm just going to be making several pom poms at once. I might end up adding a few dowels here and there because I may not always want to make 10 of the same color at once. But I don't really see the need to have all of the other wooden dowels between the two end ones unless I'm going to make just a few pom poms of the same color. The only concern I have is the 8ft length. In your video where you are using your loom to make the pom poms I'm not sure if you are using the 21-inch side or the 31-inch side. But one possible scenario I see is having the yarn just sag too much over a span of 8'. Maybe I will do 6'. What do you think of this idea?
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 7 жыл бұрын
I already did that but I used 2 nails on each end of a 6 ft length works great for making lots of pom poms with 2 nails I could make 2 different colors. I also made 2 holes halfway down to slot 2 more nails in to make a shorter length or to have 2 different colors between the 3 nails I used 6-inch nails. When I don't need it I put it in the corner of my kitchen walk in cupboard.

hi Allison love the video and pom poms. I live in Johannesburg and it was too expensive to post the loom to me. A friend's husband made me one. Perfect. Each dowel stick was 1.5 inches apart. I tried to make it and my pom poms were not even. The threads on one side were longer. What am I doing wrong? Also how many times do you go around as i tried fewer and more (like 40) and they weren't quite full enough. I would like them full. Hope you can help me. Thanks. Edwina

when you got the loom made did you tell him to do an even number of pegs along the long sides and an odd number on the short sides? use 4 strands of yarn at the same time do 4 full rounds for the base of the blanket and you can do 6 full rounds for the pom poms that way they will be full and fluffy. I don't quite understand what you mean by the pom poms not being even? do you mean uneven so they need trimmed or not in line with each other?
@edwinab3123
@edwinab3123 7 жыл бұрын
what i mean is when it has been cut off the loom the one side to the left of the tie is longer than the right side of the tie. what wool do you use? i used 4ply - maybe too thin?
@edwinab3123
@edwinab3123 7 жыл бұрын
the threads are longer
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 7 жыл бұрын
measure your pegs from the corner to the 1st peg on each side it sounds like they maybe different causing a diffrent length of fringe. you may just have to trim it all to the same size.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 7 жыл бұрын
4ply is thicker than uk double knitting. so you will have a thicker more lush blanket.

Alison, how are the dowels put in? are they glued in, trying to work out how they dont bend or fall out thats all x
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 6 жыл бұрын
they just tap in. if you glue them there is no way to repair any that might break. they dont bend as long as the wool/yarn is not wound on too tight

Also someone was asking about how many times you go around the pegs. You told her to use 4 strands and go around 6 times for pom poms. But when I'm watching you in the video before you cut away and come back you have gone around 13 times. I'm sure I'm totally confused about how many trips around the pegs that you make.

I don't believe I tell anyone only to do 6 rounds in this tutorial as 6 rounds wouldn't make a half decent pom pom. I do tell people to do 5 rounds on a pom pom blanket for the pom pom layer or 6 if they want extra fluffy pom poms on their blanket most do 5 rounds but those who sell many do 6 rounds.

Do you have a video on how to connect pom pom blanket squares together?
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 7 жыл бұрын
No, honey as I found they don't look nice sewn or tied together. A lady in my craft group made a single bed size loom. She made a basic blanket with no pom poms on it and my gosh it was very beautiful. Just remember the bigger the blanket the harder and heavier to was as wet wool weighs a LOT. The non-pom pom blankets are better made big. You could try a bed runner size loom and do pom poms runners.

@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel 7 жыл бұрын
My cat LOVES these blankets and pom pom rugs. If you don't have a loom like this try using a length of wood with a 3 or 4 inch nail at either end. Wrap the wool/yarn around the nails as many times as you need. Tie sections all along the wool length. Now cut between the ties just like I do on this video. A super fast cheap multi pom pom maker and easy to store in a corner of the room or cupboard even store it in your shed for times you need lots of pom poms.
