"If I fail my band will cover for me". That's crazy humble. In reality his own band members were in awe of him. You could see it in their faces during shows. They were constantly watching him with these expressions of joy and wonderment at what they were hearing and seeing. He was so much fun to watch. Beck knew he was adored. But he was too smart and decent to let it go to his head. Instead he stayed down to earth where he could focus on creating heavenly music and remain a true friend to all those who loved him.

There *was* that one time when Tal "covered" for Jeff after one of his amps failed by having him share her fretboard while she took a solo (which Jeff apparently appreciated so much that they added that "version" to future performances)...

In my book, Jeff Beck is one of the five great guitar players ever, and yet, he is so humble. All he wants to do is play well and send the audience home smiling. It is rare to hear a great player be so candid and honest about how hard it is to play in front of a discerning audience. Who would ever imagine Jeff Beck was that nervous about how he would sound, and how the audience would react. After all the years and so much acclaim, he still cares about doing his best. I am thrilled by his musicianship, but even more amazed by Jeff's attitude. So many of the folks from the 60s are dead, burnouts, or a**holes, but Beck seems to have learned the right lessons in life, and he seems to be comfortable in his own skin. That is not an easy thing when you spend most of your life being told how great you are. My hats off to Mr. Beck. Sorry to ramble. In real life, I am a journalist who has covered wars and politics for too many years. Music is my sanity.

His music is profound and deeply influential going back to the 1970's for me ,but with KZbin and video his concerts became accessible, what I would have given to have been a fly 🪰 on the wall at Ronnie Scott's for that, this interview let's me see a simple yet complicated virtuoso who has a humble side and a deeply respectful side , he can be intimated by the possibility of a bad performance yet works so hard not to, it's been said by others on here there will be a void that will never be filled by anyone like him in our lifetime and I can only hope to hear him playing in his eternal life praying father God made a place for him to be with us all on the other side of the eternal through Jesus christ our lord.

Many people today recognize that Jeff Beck is a phenomenal composer and guitarist. However, old guitar players - like me - will remember multiple ... decades ... when we considered him to be perhaps the greatest guitarist's electric guitarist... who relatively few among the public knew even existed. It is astonishing that this guy has been blowing the minds of guitarists with his ability to write great stuff that is so incredibly, seamlessly - perfectly - supported by his phenomenal playing skills... for... over... 50 ... years. There have been many (albeit a very small percentage of all) guitarists who have come along. Jeff Beck has transcended greatness: He is among the handful who are legendary. And to think that between his two great interests, if only one is a passion, it is building hot rods. That would make the guitar... just his hobby. Jeff, on behalf of 99.9999% of guitarists everywhere..it just ain't fair.

As artists, we all fail, and as we reach for more, we fail more. In my work with artists across the spectrum I’ve observed that the best ones know how to fail. I know that might sound trite, but it is more meaningful than it might sound. When we miss a pitch we can either own the clam or turn it into chowder, sliding into the next note we know will fit. The greats do this so adroitly we can be excused for thinking they don’t screw up. It remains, at the end of the day, art.

@davec2764 жыл бұрын
There will always be debate as to who the best gutarist of all time is and it is a difficult choicce to make with so many coming and going over time. There's the technical aspect, originality, listenability, heart and soul and finally the "X" factor. And then there's the ear of the listner. As we the listner age we begin to appreciate things we don't usually appreciate when we were younger, for example, the voice of Andrea Bocelli. Jeff Beck hits all the marks. If you go now and listen to Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Ritchie Blackmore, heck throw in Chet Atkins, John McLaughlin, Clapton, Page, Jesse Cook, the closest you'll find to Beck might be Paco DeLucia in terms of hitting all the targets, however in this example, it's for a whole different style of music. I love the artistry of all the guitarists I mentioned however I can't listen to most for too long. Jeff Beck serves us a 5 star meal with all the different flavors of tastes and smells. It's a feast for the ears. I told my ex-wife before our first time seeing Jeff Beck together, this was in San Francisco about 10 years ago or so, I said "he makes grown men cry. His playing touches the soul" and she laughed thinking I was exaggerating like I tend to do. And who would have believed the guy next to us at the concert actually was wiping away tears! Us long time fans of Jeff Beck look at these moments like a parent does to their child when after many years of practicing soccer he/she finally made a goal. After emotion and commotion came out 10 years ago we realized this was the start of a rebirth of the man who took all the risks over all the years and influenced so many. And finally he was getting his. The "Live at Ronnie Scotts" is the "drop the mic" moment. There's a reason Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Jon Bon Jovi and Brian May were in the audience. What a great time to be alive and have the amazing opportunity to hear electric guitar plyed at it's finest by what seems to be not only the greatest guitarist ever but also a humble human being.

He was asked, "Do you think the Ronnie Scott experience is something you'd like to repeat?" He said, "no, I don't think so". I'm thinking....."PLEASE DO!" THIS IS THE BEST mix of great musicians, the guests, the cuts, the venue, just the whole atmosphere! It would never have been as good in a huge auditorium. Perfect! I've had this DVD for years and have watched it SO MUCH! It is a treasure to have so much of an array of JEFF BECK so well recorded to watch. And just listening to the audio is incredibly good. Well done everybody. Thanks Jeff, Vinnie, Tal, Jason and Imogen, Joss, and Eric for this great experience in music history, really! Please think of doing something similar again. This tops all the 'big' venues by far! ✌🎹🥁🎸🎶😎

Jeff's attitude to playing Ronnie's again perfectly summed up his approach to music and much of the reason his constant musical evolution over the decades; 'been there, done that'. He constantly searched for new sounds, new styles, new musicians-always breaking new ground. Bless him. What a legend. Long live Jeff Beck! 🎸

We should all be very grateful that Jeff took the challenge to play in a small Club setting I still think it's one of his best performances with one of his best backing bands Tal and Vinnie are perfect together and I am forever grateful I got to see them play live as well in America Jeff will always be self-effacing but will always be emotionally present and will always be unparalleled

How could he ever imagine not having people think him brilliant anywhere. His two songs with Imogen heap are two of my favorite songs of all times. Brilliant

The thing I love most about Beck, scrappy old iconoclast that he is, is that he above all of his contemporaries never stopped treating his muse as a lover. Acclaim is nice. Commercial success, sure. But Jeff wouldn't betray his art for either. One of a kind. RIP ❤🙏

I like the fact Jeff always takes a little time for the press,were fans,we want to hear the story behind the story and I admire him for that..A lot of artists create their own bad press,by never allowing their fans to hear the stories,see behind the stage,etc.

What is most noticeable about this interview is that it doesn't matter who you are, there is a lot of pressure to perform and not let your audience down. I have noticed that the greater the performer (and Jeff Beck is one of the greatest!), the greater the pressure. I have seen this happen with people as great as Roger McGuinn, Pete Townshend, and even Bob Dylan. But none of them should worry because these people do not ever disappoint. Jeff Beck is amazing always, certainly up there with Hendrix and other great guitarists. I love his commitment to music in and for itself. He puts so much thought into everything he plays.

Great icon interview in an iconic place. I'm 66 and grew up with Beck and all the greats, I sat right where this took place, and while there felt the greatness of such a place. Thanks for sharing this magic.
