Ron,thanks for reply.I just thought maybe your superb video of the Pommern and you name that there might have been a connection.Lawhill's captain Johan Artur Soderlund was born in October1897 at Hammarland, Aland.I guess there might have been a family link somewhere in the past as I would imagine the population of the Aland islands is not huge unless 'Soderlund' was a popular name in the area.I do have a small connection with Captain Soderlund (not related by the way)... but that is another story.

The Lawhill was a four masted sailing ship of the same era as Pommern,I note your name is Soderlund.The captain of The Lawhill was a Captain Soderlund.I wondered if you are related.

You're right. The Lawhill also sailed in the Eriksson fleet. I was born at the island of Aland, but unfortunately, as far as I know, not related to Captain Soderlund. The officers onboard were mainly from the island while crew often was a mixture of young men from all round the world. In these days apprentices were fairly common onboard as experience from sailing ships was valuable for further nautical degrees. Cheers Ron
