I think we have to admit this is not a championship team. We are not a big club anymore just an old one, we just live off the glory years. There is no depth of talent as was proven in this game with four changes. I am 77 yrs old Pompey born and bred and supported Pompey man and boy, but I like to think I am being realistic when I say we don't have what it takes to attract the sort of players needed to turn this club around. The support for this club is fantastic and second to none but supporters don't win matches, only talented players. Excellent vlog as always Tom, but the disappointment in your voice is there for all to hear. PUP.

Tom, very speedy upload tonight so many thanks. I’m a father of two boys who one day were in their 20s, and albeit didn’t play football to Silvera’s level, would always come home gutted if they performed poorly for their local side. And that’s without an away end of OUR fans chanting that we should be sending him back - so I personally identified with Dan’s words. Yes, each and every opinion has a value, and every ticket paying Pompey fan has a right to voice his or hers views, yet I can’t help feeling awful for Sammy and unsurprised that he was straight down the tunnel as you described Tom. This feels like the biggest January in your lifetime I would imagine Tom, I really hope we accordingly estimate how and where we make our moves this month. Well done to you, Reece and Dan for sticking with it at the end and summing up your emotions for us all. Your delivery is always spot on. I look forward to the New Year’s instalment.

Kudos to the fans that travelled again today to witness another awful performance. I've become convinced that we must be overtraining the players, given the bad results when a midweek game is involved, the late goals we concede, and the injuries. Either that or the players aren't fit. Today was further proof that our regular bench is short of Championship quality. We need to get off to a fast start on the January transfers. We can stay up, but it will be tight.

Mous was naive today with the team selection. Yes there needed to be rotation but so many at once was a huge disruption to the team knew it was going to be a long afternoon as soon as that team sheet was out 😢
@jowiseman74025 күн бұрын
How can you rotate when your squad is as weak as ours? He doesn't have the players to do it and should have kept the team that played against Watford. He dropped 3 of our best players, the only players that have carried a goal threat this season and dropped a defender who scored last week and had a decent game against a team competing for a place in the play offs. The team selection was nothing short of idiotic and he got what he deserved. We were blown away yet again and are back in the bottom three. Based on what I've seen this season it is where we deserve to be.
@MMRSCITT25 күн бұрын
A very classy response to what must have been a very dispiriting away day. You and your mates represent our club brilliantly. Your comments at around 10 minutes are absolutely bang on. Simply put (as pretty much all Pompey fans agree with) - we do not have strength in depth. There has been some bad luck with injuries (Shaughnessy has been a huge loss) and I think focusing on youth (whether by design or out of neccessity) may have been an error. Some of our league 1 players (Lane; Moxon; Mcintyre; Yengi; Saydee; Towler) look like they may not, sadly, be able to make the step up in quality. I would include Ogilvie in that group but, today aside, I think he's shown improvement. Also Devlin has done really well. But ultimately you are right: they wear the shirt and we love them all. No need for personal abuse. Hoping for an amazing January window but we need to be realistic about the calibre of player that would be available, affordable and willing to join. Also not sure who we would be able to offload to balance the books and free up spaces in the squad. I'd also say that I've seen a lot of people criticising Mous' selection today. And I get wanting to play the best 11 (who, as you rightly say, can compete against most teams in this league) every game, but had he started Lang or Murphy and then they pulled up with a muscle injury then people would spit feathers about not protecting our best players. Tough call for Mous and I still back him.

The story of our season, the lack of investment in the summer being heavily exposed once we can't field our best 11 on a weekly basis, we have completely capitulated without Lang, Murphy and Potts. That comes down to not having the depth in the squad to compete in this division. Our best players performing papers over the cracks of the players we have that aren't up to this league, so when we have to replace our strongest players with more personell who can't compete, we get ran through, punished and beat within the first 45 minutes. Moral of the story, if we don't get the right players in January, we will keep capitulating, we will keep up with one step forward, two steps back and we will be in serious trouble.
@PompeyDave-w6m25 күн бұрын
The fact is we have too many players , good in league 1 but not up to this division . We need at least a couple of experienced championship performers . Lack of depth in the squad, that’s the glaring problem that has been exposed time and time again in the first half of the season. Would be interesting to see how Richard Hughes did with say double the current playing squad wages and transfer budget. At the moment it’s hard to judge due to the fact he’s so far not been supported properly for this level of football by the owners

the only thing I can think for the 4 thrashings is that in those games we have tired to play a more attacking style vs points on the road we have sat in a low block and counter attacked, so why aren't we doing this every away game? It just screams of tactical naivety

I've defended Mousinho all season, but I'm losing faith in him. He and Hughes made a total mess of recruitment in the summer. I'm beginning to think they need to go. Today was just mind-boggling. What kind of manager benches 3 of his best players and drops a defender who had a decent game against Watford and scored? We've got a dismal squad, two midfielders playing in our back four, endless injuries and a manager who thinks it's a good idea to drop his best attacking players and top goalscorers for a game against a mid-table side that we could have taken something from had he actually set us up to try and win. 4 wins all season and second bottom in the league thanks to Mousinho and Hughes. O'Neil, Robins and even Schumacher are a better option at this point. I just don't trust Mousinho and Hughes to do any better in January than they did in the summer. Our return to the championship has been disastrous so far. When even the team you beat into second place in league one last season is spanking you 4-0 you know you've got it all wrong.

Clearly we need to strengthen the squad. IMO we need an on-the-pitch leader figure who maybe is past his best but can bring out the best in others and most importantly - organise them. Worth getting that one key figure (rather like Merson brought out the best in the other players in our promotion year) more than three average players. Too many potential draws turning into defeats and too many defeats turning into thrashings. That said it's hard to believe we don't have sufficient talent in the squad to stay up.

Someone on Twitter posted a comment that made me a bit thoughtful - it might just be that Mous wanted to demonstrate to the owners that he simply doesn't have the players and needs more. Ballsy move if so! Last game before the window, away to a team who have only been beaten at home twice all season, Pompey playing badly away from home... He might have thought, "Let's demonstrate that we need more depth..." I can think of no other reason to change three players (while keeping them on the bench!). The full-strength team can compete with anyone, but lose even one and Pompey look threadbare. What amazes me though is the lack of effort. I love Marlon but it's time, I think, to make the move to coaching...

Mousinho clearly doesn't rate him as a championship player. Barely had a game this season. If we are serious about staying up we need some players out as well as coming in. The trouble is I don't think the club are serious about staying up and have one eye on next season in league 1 where Moxon probably will be a first team regular.

At this level only money will get you success even spending £2 or £3 million on a player is not going to be enough. This squad is full of players who will make a living in the lower leagues, get rid and start by spending proper fees and wages on 2 or 3 players to keep us up.Dont forget these owners are up there with the richest in this division!!

Have to guess that Mousinho has targetted 3 points at Fratton Park on 1st Jan, and sacrificed this match (by benching our best/most creative players). If we get them then perhaps we can forgive the result, if not necessarily the performance.

Felt like we wrote the game off before it had even started. I understand we need to rest players in a VERY busy period of fixtures, but we don’t have the depth to make 4 changes to key players and expect to be competitive. Too many players out of their depth (I don’t think Silveira will play for us again), Mous got it wrong today.
@jowiseman74025 күн бұрын
Silvera will likely be sent back I think. Seems to have skill, but his decision making needs work. Based on the summer I dread to think who they will bring in to replace him. This season has been a disaster to be honest. I'm not holding out much hope. Some of the teams around us have replaced their managers and it is paying off for them. We just seem stagnant and are relying on the occasional surprisingly good home performance to keep us up. Over all we look a long way off being a competitive championship side.

ANOTHER poor away performance from players who quite frankly are NOT UP TO Championship level. If Pompey are to avoid relegation....and it is a BIG IF....it will be the Fratton Park crowd who will keep us up., because away from home we are what we were last year...a Div 1 side.... trying to cope with fitter, faster...and cleverer players than we have met for many years. Management completely wasted the summer transfer market by trying to be too clever and investing in young players who they hoped to sell on for profit at a later date, without considering the strength of most Championship sides, and by getting "experienced" players "on the cheap" none of whom were anything more than "journeymen" in their careers. So it is no surprise to find us getting overrun...all over the pitch in some games...mainly away fixtures. Unless a miracle happens and the Management team recruit some quality players in January we WILL be relegated....unless at the end of the season there are THREE teams with less points than us.!!!!! That could be our saving grace.!!

Not even surprised, I knew we wouldn't turn up today because it's exactly what I expect of a John Mousinho team away. He unfortunately is overdue a sacking now, we thank him for last season but he has to be removed before he does any more damage. Those players know they can turn up or not turn up whenever they want. A better manager gets more out of that squad. Oxford sacked Buckingham because he's not good enough for this level. Rowett comes in and gets better out of the same squad, hats off to Oxford for doing the right thing. We're stuck with inept owners who appoint inept people who then do a terrible job. Completely bored and pretty well past caring about this season now, it's a total disaster from the boardroom to the pitch. There's a good number of people that deserve to lose their jobs for these repeated failures.

Agree it was a soft choice, but want we do lack depth in this squad, they cant play gout of their skins every match, PUP 💙💙💙

I'm finally going to agree with you. Mousinho and Hughes need to go. They've made a complete pig's ear of our return to the championship. Sure, the owners don't spend much on the squad but a decent manager could still find better players even with limited funds. What's really annoying is that Mousinho would rather play people hopelessly out of position than change the formation and tactics. We could play a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3 and have Swanson, Towler and Ogilvie as the back 3. At least these are actually defenders. Instead we've got a midfielder with no pace playing as a centre back and another midfielder at right back. And people wonder why we've leaked 9 goals in our last 3 away games? Mousinho just looks like a stubborn one trick pony who is bereft of tactical know-how. And what is going on in training that leads to so many players being injured and being completely incapable of playing 3 games in a week without getting absolutely hammered in one of them? Other teams manage it without rotating the squad. I don't trust JM and RH to bring in the right players in January either. The owners need to act now.

Exactly. Very few of us would get away with such a poor attitude as this lot do in our jobs without the threat of sacking or wage deductions. It all ultimately rests at the door of the Eisners, great at doung the off field stuff. Not much good on it. I think we're as good as relegated now, what a waste of time getting promoted.

I'm starting to lose faith in Mousinho. We all know he and Hughes made a complete mess of recruitment in the summer. That's a given. But today was just very poor management all round and not for the first time this season either. We are all expecting some kind of miracle in the January window, but given the complete pig's ear they made of things in the summer I am not holding out much hope. We just look an absolute mess. Terrible squad, players out of position, no reliable centre backs or strikers to cover Bishop and what on earth goes on in training that is causing so many injuries? Swansea are no mugs and we have won just 3 games at home all season. If he dropped 3 of our best players for this game to focus on Swansea, he's taking a big risk. It's also an insult to the fans who travelled to Bristol expecting to see Pompey at least try and win the game. Instead, the manager threw in the towel before a ball was kicked. He didn't pick a team to win that game and showed the fans and Bristol City zero respect. He got what he deserved and that includes the criticism and the increasing number of fans who are now questioning whether he and Hughes should be at the club.

That ‘play up pompey’ chant is up there as one of the most irritating in the football league. No offence.

It was said best on three lads in a pub pompey are a team that have this performance in them, it's not a one off it's just how we play....or something to that effect. All I hope is that we squeek out of relegation on the last day of the season if needed. Also I get double helpings of bad results as my best mate is a plymouth supporter and I watch those games to support him and chat at work about the games. It's a dark cloud over both clubs this weekend and Monday will be tough breaking down the how the games went. Good job as always tom and like how balanced you and Dave are at the end. It's takes real character and self control to be measured when your hurting inside. Your all a credit to this club and hope results start to improve more frequently to make us all feel little better.

Thanks very much for your kind reflections on the video Rob, not a good time to be a Pompey or a Plymouth fan!! The Three Lads in the Pub chat I remember was about accepting that we have these sort of games in our system - which is a really unfortunate thought but I suppose it’s where we are right now. Thanks for all your ongoing support!

Same player at fault for all three goals..... said he was crap last season. I am bored with saying it, but we need Saydee fighting away in midfield.....

Would not be surprised if Pompey bring in a new manager. We have half a season to save ourselves.

I would be very surprised if they bring in a new manager. He and Hughes were just given contract extensions and it will cost a fortune to pay them off. The Eisners try and do everything on the cheap. They're not going to pay off JM and RH and then bring in someone like O'Neil or Robins and give them money to spend in January as well. Not a chance.

A year full of ups and downs but has ended on one of the worst performances… January massive. Although I reckon we’ll beat Swansea for some reason 😂. PUP🔵⚪️🔵⚪️
