If them Medaka fish can help with mozzy control who is going to complain haha RIP to the ones you lost For any one who cannot get them amazing little fish for legal reasons. You can get native minnow. If any one says they need running water they need to go back to school haha I have had them for many many years. Makes me feel old when I think how long I have had minnows in a small patio pond. Not even a pump just plenty of water plants.

Thanks for the informative pond and fish update. I’ve had very limited success with my couple of attempts at establishing a pond in my garden. I think my population of critters simply view it as a buffet 😂

The Japanese maples and Ginko look great around the pond. Have you ever thought of trying your hand at bonsai?

an aside about pond : generally outside ponds are generally 2ft deep minimally , plus , since tank is above ground it lacks the comfort of ground insulation . - SMART about mesh cover ; congrats all round , brilliant !!!

Fingers crossed for some lovely baby Medaka's. Cannot wait to see the colour. It will be a wait of a few months once the eggs have been laid, but well worth the wait. You will need to let the fry develop away from the parents as they will eat them. They can go back together once grown for a few months.

Hi Katrina. I loved watching your fish get their pond cleaned, and I'm interested that you have a water lily and use netting on top. We have a concrete tub with 2 fish, Lily and kevin, named by Grandchildren, also with wide netting. I'd love to plant a water lily, and wonder do they grow up through the grid? We have lots of birds and neighbour's cats, so the netting is essential!

Margaret, David, and Kirstin are the names of my Scottish relatives. As an American, I’ve no idea how authentic those are but I think they’d be fine for fish babies 😄

I have both newts and frog spawn in my pond. Have solved the problem by removing some spawn to a separate tank. Once the tadpoles in the tank have grown too big for the newts to eat they go back into the pond.

Best of luck with the pond, hope you get some baby fish, that would be really exciting, you will have to keep checking it quite regularly or as you say any young will just become food to your two remaining fish 🐟

Just discovered and watched your video on Medaka fish, this has probably been said to you but that metal tank is going to get really cold in winter as its no insulation i was going to ask if the fish survived the winter as i was going to make a pond myself but not out of metal mayber plastic or wood, i remember when i used to rear pheasants and had galvanised water feeders and they were the firts thing to freeze, same material as your tank pond, anyway enjoyed the video and learnt some stuff myself, thanks

Some people sponsor an elephant while others sponsor a tiger. I would like to sponsor a wee, tiny fish! It would be nice to keep the Scottish theme. Seumas is a possibility (hint, hint). Looking forward to progress reports. 😊

Lovely video. Came across your channel whilst looking for inspiration on mini wildlife ponds. One thing I wanted to ask is when it's cold and you get ice, would something like a Belfast sink crack?

Regarding the fish we bought some white cloud mountain minnows and some gold fish for our 2 seperate ponds. We were told they would survive over winter. Anyway, during the really cold spell, we bought 2 indoor aquariums. We transferred all the fish indoors. They are all so happy in the indoor aquariums. 😊

I hope the plants will recover well... The two fish...aren t they enough for this size of container? I ve had a summer pond for a turtle I ve kept mostly indoors... But te turtle needed also a summer holiday. I ve made a shallow pond and a gravel path on my rooftop garden.

I have netting over my pond ment for growing veg/fruit so no possibility of eggs being transferred anywhere else also put the net on my pond because I didn't want dragonfly larvae in there predating on my fish because the Dragonfly larvae will eat them

You have made me feel guilty that I haven't cleaned out my Medaka ponds! I also lost three fish in the pre-Christmas freeze and, like your unfortunate little fellows, I think it was because they were too small to cope. I was wondering how often you feed your fish. I imagine it's every couple of days or so when you get to your plot which is about when I feed mine, but I am unsure whether I feed mine enough - they are always hungry!
@homegrowngarden
@homegrowngarden Жыл бұрын
Aww I’m sorry you lost some too. Did you buy them last year? Don’t feel guilty for not cleaning…I was more curious to see if the plants were still alive 😆 Yes that’s right, I feed every couple of days maybe 3 times a week. I wouldn’t worry too much as there’s lots for them to eat inside the tank too. Do you have a medaka specific feed? I think I should upgrade their food especially since one is pregnant. They’re still on the “fry/baby” food since it’s hard to get anything small enough for them!
