Great video Ryu as usual. One topic not covered AFAIK is something akin to Texel density. The size of the objects being modeled have to be 'large enough' relative to the bake resolution for them to bake. In my experiments decals handle fine detail (e.g. a high count bevel) but they don't handle small detail (a small high count bevel). Large features with fine edging works best it seems.

Man, the baking gives me nightmares, I thought UV-ing was bad enough. Mesh explosions, vert erections, and what have you and now we need bevels with D cups. And all I wanted was to retire in peace.

I'm sitting here at work watching this on my lunch break. It's hot and sunny with big puffy clouds. Nice. I happen to look up and it's a down poor! Torrential rain - and I have 4 windows open in my car! Now I am so wet from running out to shut them. WTF! Where did that come from! Oh, well, the video is very useful.

There is one detail you did forget in the setup that may seem obvious, if you have a monsterous GPU, with decent cuda support, make sure you in the preferences that you have the Cuda device selected as default, otherwise you'll end up baking with the CPU, and even with my threadripper, that's an obnoxiously long bake time, where making sure my cuda devices are setup it's a relatively short bake. I made this mistake exactly once and went "why is it not baked" after 10 minutes, then went "oh I'm an idiot and haven't configured the system settings since I updated blender"

I have 2 curious questions. 1) You have boxcutter pie and decalmachine pie both set to the D-key. Don't they conflict with each other? I've always changed DM to Ctrl+Shift+D. 2) Essentially you are baking geo from a high poly to a lo poly which looks great. How come Blender does a crap job when I bake onto a model forcing me to consider using something like Marmoset to get better results?
@PonteRyuurui3 жыл бұрын
w to quit bc, you dont need dm during modelling mate / because blender bake engine is shit, it does a fair good job at deadpan bakes, but lp to hp is trash

I just bought your 80 Sci fi decals and I need to know how to add them to my pie menu so I can use them. There are no directions on the Gumroad page after you guy them. Thanks!
@PonteRyuurui3 жыл бұрын
there are directions, where it says how to install, also, once you add them to a correct DM folder, you will see them in pie menu, you might need to refresh DM in prefs if blender is open. From my Gumroad page: How to install: download and unzip, copy paste all 3 folders into Decal Machine addon folder, which is located on your system drive under assets -> Decals (Blender addon folder is located on your system drive, under users/yourPCname/AppData/Roaming/Blender Foundation/ Blender/Blenderversion/ Decal Machine/assets/Decals). Link to my video on practical use of Decal Machine 2.0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHfclnaLodFoaqc To learn how to use Decal Machine to its full potential visit Machin3 KZbin channel: kzbin.info/door/4yaFzFDILd2yAqOWRuLOvA NOTE / update 2020/01/31: Bonus panel 024 is a narrow panel replacement for 001 from the main pack. There is a shading issue there when highly reflective materials are used (limitations of 8bit file). I decided to leave 001 in the pack for two reasons: 1. the issue isn't that bad and not noticeable or hardly from a distance, and 2. the new decal was designed fromm scratch, and has a slightly different design, and to be honest I prefer it.

When i create my decals the cornors are still visible on the bake. So they are not transparent and i dont know why.

Hey Ryu, When I try your symmetry trick to set the edge down the middle to avoid diagonal lines (5min) I see the new edge only for a second. When I tab into it, it's gone. Any idea why?

@PonteRyuurui3 жыл бұрын
ya they are called subset decals, you can have three mats, if you create emissive ones
@berhangundogdu72974 жыл бұрын
Mate I started learning learning DECALmachine today and using Source Material at manual then yours as complementary. At 32:27 you said there can't be anything done to anti aliasing effect but while I was surfing through m3chines videos he mentions enabling alpha at baking fixes these problems, at the cost of longer render time but this is minor problem so only last bake is enough. The Exact time is in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emSbfqGoi6t5apY I would love to hear the results!! ;)

How do You cut non-manifold (I guess plane is under this category) mesh with booleans? The slowdown during bevel / array operation is real sh.. I experience a lot of these. At some point i just quit as this is way too frustrating.

that is shit blender coding for you. not manifold cuts - you dont.
