I know you think that having all quads in a model is 'bullshit,' but I have to disagree as booleans always seems to produce shading artifacts at some stage of the modelling process. What Blender sorely needs is a Retopology modifier such as that in 3ds max which makes Tris AND N-Gons a thing of the past. If you haven't seen the Retopology modifier in max you should definitely give it a look as it is extremely powerful and solves the problem of N-Gons. I know Tris and N-Gons are not a great usually a problem with flat surfaces, but that is not always the case as they frequently shown in quite a Blenderbos videos. I guess it's a case of you either want all quads in a model or you're happy to live without them.

Regarding Cleanup: I'm modeling a camera at real-world scale. So I have some areas where the distance between edges is like .003 cm in size or smaller. I'm finding that cleanup just wipes these out completely. There doesn't seem to be a setting in cleanup to lower the value which raises the question: should I not be modeling at real-world scale? Or model at scale and forget about cleanup?
@PonteRyuurui2 жыл бұрын
Well, first of all running bools at that scale may be hard. You could try setting the merging distance to a different number, but by default it is set to 0.0001 so I dont understand why you are having issues.
@joey8482 жыл бұрын
@@PonteRyuurui @Ponte Ryuurui Yeah my 1st thought was to change that value but it's already lower than my edge distance. The area in question isn't a bool, but rather a sort of trough or depression that encloses the perimeter of an extrusion. I guess I could just scale up the mesh, run clean up and scale back down. Anyway, thanks for the quick reply, and for all your amazing tuts.
@PonteRyuurui2 жыл бұрын
@@joey848 ya thats your best bet, scale up by 5 and then scale down at the end. tbh blender is not the best tool for such work, you are better off with cad for for super precise engineering stuff.

Quick question, why is cleanup mapped to 3 and smart face to 4? Seems like they should be swapped since we are used to hitting 3 for face mode? I swapped them in the mappings just curious if I am missing something.
@PonteRyuurui Жыл бұрын
Why you re using 3 for face mode with machine tools installed, thats like walking to the store when you have a car. Watch the pies video and then you ll know.
@codechomper2735 Жыл бұрын
@@PonteRyuurui I am using 3 for smart face and 4 for cleanup. Initially they are set to 3 for cleanup and 4 for smart face. Just seems that coming from vanilla to Machin3, 3 would be smart face out of the box. Love the improved workflow and thanks for all of your videos

@vrharh2 жыл бұрын
Finally. If anyone is interested, it is a pie menue addon, which comes with Blender. Activate it and you have a bunch of options. Actually, I find X the most useful when you're in edit mode. It allows you to quickly choose between dissolve edges, verts and faces.
@Jungheinz Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, ctrl + alt + 1 in snapping tool (fill edges) doesn't work for me, instead it creates path between selected vertices. Does anyone have the same issue? edit: Nevermind, I've selected vertices in wrong order.

what would cause ctrl + alt + 1 to not merge? addon is active, keybinds are correct, in edit mode, correct vertices selected.

Material Picker alternative already exist in Blender. Select the objects you want to put material and select last object you want to copy its material then CTRL-L and link materials.
@MACHIN32 жыл бұрын
The Material Picker is about picking a material so you can edit it in the shader editor, without have to go to the material properties panel. Assigning is just a bonus feature.
