The thumbnail caught my eye. I had a friend build a 400 with these heads. 2.12” intake valves! Factory Ram Air 3 setup. Cast high flow manifolds, factory intake and worked Quadrajet. Ram Air 3 cam. .060” bored block with flat tops. Factory points distributor with a Pertronix, Mallory coil and Crane high 6 box with a 6200 limiter. Through a 4 speed and 390s it put 400 to the rollers. Pretty impressive for mostly all stock parts.

These things certainly should be a VERY good upgrade for our 350 build, technically they are "correct" for a 350HO soo... still kinda correct right? Not going to completely throw the kitchen sink at these things but definitely not going to let head flow be our limiting factor! 400 at the rollers is VERY respectable out of a 400 especially with factory+ mods. If we can hit 400 at the crank on this 350 build I'm going to be EXSTATIC!

I got the #62 heads on my poncho 350 paired with Mellings version of the “068” Ram Air III cam. Was trying to go for a 350 HO clone (couldn’t find #48 heads) but it definitely has some power now.
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin8 ай бұрын
Now this I'm interested in hearing about! Tell me more! What kind of power levels did you get to? What chassis is it in? How far out of my mind am I for doing this?
@Boatanchorperformance8 ай бұрын
Not going to lie I wish I could tell you. The motor is in my ‘70 Firebird but long story short I had someone “storing” the car for me and pretty much got it back looking like it went through a John Wick movie (was a straight bodied project car that now has dents everywhere, LH quarter panel is smashed in). Because of this I lost interest in the car and it’s been sitting in my garage for a few years now. I need to get the motivation back to start the body work but since I got the 350 rebuilt with those modifications the car is definitively more snappy on the accelerator. I haven’t gone past 15 mph, I’ve only driven it moving it on/off a trailer. I’m hoping it makes at least 300/375 to the rear wheels that was my goal for this car. I’ve heard others liking their modified P350’s and have also heard others say they weren’t satisfied that they couldn’t reach 455 power levels. In my opinion I don’t think you’re out of your mind, these 350’s definitely have the potential to make enough power to get you in trouble lol.

Cool project! My first car was a 1968 LeMans! 350 2 barrel, 4 speed....it had an 8 ball on the shifter, lol. My dad bought it for me in 1973. It was a great car. I came to Ohio State with it and drove it until about 1977. It had close to 120k on it by then and still ran great! I gave it to my brother and he drove it for another year or so. He was playing around on a snowy road and wrecked it. I'll never forget that car. I'll be following your build!

Thanks for the ride Austin. I completely relate to this video. Low to no budget, and traveling for parts.

Will you need hardened valve seats?
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin8 ай бұрын
Yes sir absolutely will need hardened seats. These heads are going to need... everything. But we'll also use that as an opportunity to show the whole start to finish process of how head work is REALLY done!

I have had to drive a couple of counties away to pick up a set of mid 90's casting SBC world products sportsman 2 heads for my engine that I started building a long time ago , it's a destroaked 350 , it has .030 over 327 pistons and race rods that came out of one of the engine builder/machine shop where I spent over $3500 on parts and machining, but I was single when I started all this then got married and really haven't had the time or money to do anything until I baught the heads in 2020 , then finally started getting more parts collected now im down to figuring out what cam and timing set up and which of the transmission that need rebuilt that I have lol I could have changed up when all the LS stuff got going but I'm dedicated to my original idea of what I wanted to do to my 72 Nova

Are you going with a flat tappet cam or roller setup? There is a company that sells a budget kit with LS lifters that work in the Pontiac engine. Crawdaddy Customs did a video on it.

Most of us can't. I found a set of bare low milage 821 corvette/camaro heads for my Ls3 swap. It's going to cost me alot more in the end. But since I don't have 10 grand for a ls3 drop out or about 10 grand for a new Ls3. I am having to piece it togethe. But I will have what I want and not settle. Can't buy a doner cause it will cost close to the same for a Ls3 lol. So piece by piece. We aren't rich for sure. Good video brother!!!

I hate it when someone says an engine is an air pump. It is in fact the final refinery treat it as such, and you will makepower treated as an air pump. And all you're doing is make a noise.

13/48/62/670 all the same chamber size with 2.111intake 1.660 exhaust. CHECK THEM FOR CRACKS ! ! ! before anything else. 2 angle valve job only as Pontiacs don't have enough room in the seat for a 3 angle (you WILL burn a seat fast with any 3 angle) Port intake & heads to the big intake D port intake gaskets and clean up the bowels. Don't worry to much about getting them flowed as your using a cast crank & rods that limit RPM to 7,200 max. Call Sig Erson Cams for a "EARLY" 500HLH Pontiac grind camshaft like we talked about on phone. ( keep in mind there is a early & late grind and the early is MUCH better) It's a cheap flat tappet production cam that WORKS ! but again. I must stress, no sitting in traffic on a hot day with that cam, plus NO POWER BRAKES. Manual disks are your friend !. Keep a eye out in the swap meets / Ebay / Craiglist/Marketplace for a old school single plane Edlbrock Toquer intake ( NOT a Toquer II😡) and run a 850 double pump Holley. Put that Lemans on a BIG diet get it down under 3,000 lbs (NOT easy) Get rid of all the factory dash & seats and you might go around 12.95 ET at 92mph all motor as you don't have enough cubes to get much more. If you REALLY want a low 12 sec car you got to use a 400 crank & rods. The reason for that ET is the weight of a 350 pontiac & a 400 are about the same. 800+++ pounds. West Palm Mike. P.S. ---- what are you going to do about that rear roof &back window?????----- I MAY know a way out of that, I got a guy that sells a weld in rear window track

HELL YEAH... those will wake up a 350. Still be pump gas even. Looking at your teardown video, your block has the chamfers in it already to clear the valves in the 62 heads, so you only need valves, springs (I like Comp 995s as they are inexpensive and work well), guides and a valve job. An RPM intake, some cheap Summit headers, and a 236/242 ish cam is all ya need... with a 2400ish stall.
@SweatyFatGuy8 ай бұрын
HPP did a big flow test on many heads, the 62s are supposed to be close the the 48s and 12/13s its the Ultimate Head article and you can find it on Waller Racing. This is what the 48s flowed.
