Favorite automobile that was ever made manufactured, I think it's a beautiful thing and as much as I would like to own one I just love looking at it! Yeah 1968 or 1969 GTO judge that is my dream car! Some people dream about Ferraris I dream about the GTO judge, Pontiac sure scored with this one! Badass for sure!

Little-Known Fact: The original TV commercial for the Judge featured the rock band Paul Revere and the Raiders singing about the GTO out on a dry lakebed. According to the book Pontiac Pizazz, by Jim Wangers and Art Fitzpatrick, the lead singer, Mark Lindsay, was a car guy and loved the Judge, so he wrote a song about it. Wangers claims this commercial is considered one of the earliest rock-music videos.

Jim Wagners can claim that, sure. It's not right, but he can say it...

@That_AMC_Guy3 жыл бұрын
@@SM-dt1pr Jim Wangers knew a lot about cars, that there is no doubt. However, this is just another case of Paul Revere himself being a shrewd businessman. The song here is just a re-working of the song "Time after Time" from the album Hard & Heavy (with Marshmallow). The song WAS written by Mark Lindsay and Keith Allison. While I wouldn't exactly call this "selling out", Paul Revere saw it as free promotion that they'd get paid for. Paul tabled the idea before the group, they all agreed. Mark changed the words to "Time after Time" to fit the promotional material they'd been given (almost word for word, I might add!). I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Dick Clark had a hand in this, too. Let's be honest, the Raiders were kind of on the way out by 1969. The albums Hard & Heavy, Alias Pink Puzz and 1970's Collage would yield some Top 10 Hits, but nothing would go to #1. They were seen as more for the kiddies, almost a bubblegum act. So, when a car company exec - who knows nothing about pop culture, asks who the hottest band of the time is - which of the top acts could they get.... The Raiders were right there with their hands up. They weren't counter-culture enough to turn down money. It also was not the first time they'd done a promotional gig for GM.... check out their other songs "SS 396" and "Corvair Baby". I never had the chance to talk about this with Uncle Paul. I'll have to ask Mark the story the next time I get the opportunity.

Another cool outcome of this collaboration is their awesome custom stagecoach show car. The “horses” pulling the coach was a GTO-grilled articulated front section with TWO side by-side blown exposed Pontiac mills, the whole front unit ‘steered’ the rig, pretty cool engineering feat. There were vox amps built into the sides of the power unit and Paul had a keyboard on the back deck.

About 50 years ago, I would drop off newspapers to the kids houses that delivered the afternoon newspaper in Beaverton Oregon. I also had to drop off newspapers to several business. At the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce, there was a young blonde receptionist who had a Pontiac GTO Judge parked in the lot. It just wasn't fair, I'm not sure which was more beautiful, the receptionist or the car. Put them both together and whoever was her boyfriend was the luckiest guy in the world.

These were the times! Aggressive design, powerful V8 but in a car that doesn't take itself serious with all those beautiful toxic bright colours! Nowadays cars are boring, and ads are bad, but considering that my generation is nostalgic of the both 60s and 80s we may see the return of these ads and the death of a corporate culture with those gray and ugly things and cars.
