About the camera: jabril’s latest video had a camera that rotated to always keep one player on the left and one on the right. A bit of a compromise but worth trying out if you don’t want split screen
@alzahelb60534 жыл бұрын
Yeah i thought the same even tho it would force the players to be in "side view" instead of "back view" it could get rids of the split screen

When I was in middle school or maybe even younger, I had this idea that I would become a game dev. I never did much other than talk about it. I feel like I've got too many things I want to pursue so I'm not gonna do game development most likely, but you've definitely rekindled that dream I had back then. On top of that, the continuous progress, overcoming obstacles etc. is truly inspiring, not just for game development but also for anything else in life. I truly enjoy watching people pursue something they really enjoy. If anyone else feels this way there's another channel called Wintergatan that gives the exact same feeling. It's not game dev, but building a new mechanical instrument he has dubbed the marble machine. Every week or so, he'll post a new vid with the tiniest of improvements that he's made to make it a little bit more achievable. Coincidentally he is also Swedish. Happy new year Ponty, thanks for inspiring us all.

to solve the serious issue you addressed by adding split screen (which you hated): I think you should add like a script or an if statement that (relative to the old camera setup) if the character is close enough relative to the X or Z axis, make it invert the controls. and add a message at the bottom of the screen that goes like: Player 1: Inverting controls ( and maybe give it a small timer so that the player can get ready). the text and font shouldn't be intrusive but just stay there to let the player know when the controls get re-adjusted. and flip them back when the player is in the appropriate position. I don't know, just food for thought. But yeah, I love your content and the game and I hope you keep doing what you love.

Hi, a suggestion for the camera issue. If you still want to keep the game with a single camera, what about just rotating the camera around the midpoint between the two players, keeping it so player 1 is always on the left of the screen and player 2 is always on the right. You can add a zoom in/zoom out to the camera depending of the distance between the players. Keep the camera in an high angle so it's not looking like tekken together with the current movement system, I don't think there is a game quite like this.

Split screen is perfect for this game. Because people don't see it much any more, it can help sell your game if done well. Also, you should think about creating online multi-player with single screen; but then that is another can of worms. A great example of an indie game that has done this well is "Outward". People love the split screen. From one indie to another; game is looking damn good. Keep it up because you give us all hope and we can get our games done and out there too.

I'll admit I was a little on the fence about the split screen at first (especially since playing Enter the Gungeon co-op recently where the shared camera works pretty well), but since the move sets are more complex and precise distance judging matters the split screen seems like a good fit! Hey man been watching for a few months now! Thought I'd mention NHL skill stick mechanics, there is an advantage to the person who is going "UP" which is usually the home team for 1 period, away team for 2nd period and back to 3rd period for home team (home team advantage if you play 2 players on the same console) If you have not played it much I'll explain... Going up is the most native feeling since you get a proper experience, its what youre used to if you only ever play alone, and its just easier to use visually. Up on the thumbstick allows for a shot, down and then up is a slap shot, and then side to side and other motions are just stick movement/dekes. Now the reason I bring this up is the way the mechanics work is based on which way your team is going that period thats how your controls are designed, now the simplest way to keep your controls would probably be with the camera setup you've done, but you could try optimizing controls a bit, if you play NHL try out going up and then going down for ideas... if you dont play it maybe try watching a tutorial on the skill stick mechanics for a better idea of what im saying. Keep in mind when watching these are for going up right, so when going down they're "reversed" kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5mykHafepecZqs kzbin.info/www/bejne/noG6dolvgch8g7s kzbin.info/www/bejne/rarCc5uqqdyld7s

There is one option for the camera: have it pointed at the midpoint between the boxers from the side. It's 100% imperfect, but it would keep the singular camera with a similar amount of disorientation for both players. Split screen works better anyway.

So when you get around to improving the GUI for the player I recommend using something to hide the cut created by the split screen. An example would be to have ropes of the ring go around the edge of the screen to decorate with another set of ropes going down the middle to hide the divide.

When you first mentioned the problem with the camera for the second player and how frustrating it is regarding the inverted controls. The first thing that came to my mind is fixing the camera to be on the side of both players; which means the camera will calculate the angle between players and rotates to the center point. And when players move away from each other the camera zooms out. Its kind of applying a 2d cam to a 3d game. Hit me up if you are interested and need more elaboration. Otherwise, big fan, great work, keep it up.
@RickyDev4 жыл бұрын
The splitscreen works because you only have to look at yours and the opponent's characters, and they are relatevily small compared to the arena, they never fill the entire camera space so it doesn't feel crammed! Nice improvements btw ^^

You should make a practice mode where there’s a dummy with the same upper body as your character, but with a stand instead of legs. There would be a video clip in the top-right corner which shows a specific move being executed over and over. If the player executes the move three times in a row, it shows them a new move. This cycle continues until it’s more like a freeplay, with no video in the corner, letting you practice punching the dummy with different combos.

I like how your wife doesn't only try to be gentle but gives actual epik constructive reviews (even tho she sometimes punch you in the face ahaha). My feeling at this point is that the "prototype" is cool... BUT you need to find a way to make it more replayable and get rid of the boredom. Like after 3 to 5 games you're probably feeling "it's all the same" right now. At least it's my feeling when watching. Maybe add some randomness with exterior events or objects like mario karts or smash bross do it. Or more special moves / environment interaction (i remember you were trying something with the rope in one of your previous videos). Basically what i'm saying is : You need to find a way to make each match special & unique, different from the others in order to give the player this "i want to play more" feeling. Anyway love your videos and your all time positive attitude. Keep it up and merry christmas !
