I think you should also include the enemies head velocity. like if the enemy leans away from your punch it should be less damage and if they lean into the punch it should be more. I believe you could do this by calculating the head vector at the time of collision and your hand vector at collision and if their head vector is a similar angle to your fist vector it would do less damage and if the vectors are opposite do more damage

This 100%. Since it is physics based there should really be only one way to do it. Calculate the difference of the hand velocity vector and the head velocity vector. Then multiply this by the normal of the tangent to the head. Basically the speed difference gives you some value for how hard a punch COULD be. Then the normal vector to the head determines what 100% of that damage gets through. Think of it as a percentage grazing function.

The UFC games have a good system with stamina where stamina is affected by how much damage you take and how much you are throwing punches, I think that is a cool system to implement into your game.

IDEA: Make the health system like Super Smash Bros. Every time you hit someone, their % goes up. Every time you hit, you have an increased chance to knock them out. Harder punches have an increased chance. It gets really edgy when two people have a really high % and are one big hit away from dying. I think it would also be cool if health and stamina were combined somehow. In boxing, your stamina is basically your video game health. As you take punches, you get more tired and your punches are weaker. As someone who is currently learning unreal, I have to give so much credit to you. I can barely balance school, life, and unreal and you are out here creating 3d animations, learning blueprints, and figuring out particles from scratch while balancing with the rest of life and creating super high quality videos. I love your work! Keep it up :)

PARTICLE SYSTEM FEEDBACK: I Love the blur/air movement effect on swinging and connecting w the attacks, especially when they’re based on speed / damage of the attack. I liked the red glare effect that matches the gloves. And while i do think that you should include some particles for when enemy is hit for player feedback, I didn’t care for the “POW” text, nor the small lightning bolt looking icons that appear when hitting enemy. The hit-marker looking particle (kind of square looking) was ok IMO. Aside from that I think the particles add a lot to the games feel and certainly an improvement. (PS I’m totally down to play testing if you’re ever looking for applicants :p keep up the good work!)

some punch fx would add that little bit of extra variation other than just gloves and pants that would be cool, maybe make the fx much bigger and crazier but only trigger on the game-ending hit. also if this is what happens there needs to be an effect that sprays cows everywhere.

*Some advices from dreaming game dev.* 1) Some random tips for newbies like "U can hit hard by leaning and punching in same direction for more damage." 2) If possible plz introduce jumping and falling. 3) background voices like "KO" or something. 4) More settings for graphic quality, controls and Game settings to enable or disable stuff like Music, Anime stuff and slomo. 5) Allowing player to exit ring or jump from corner.

The damage system looks great! but I think you should also start thinking about how to punch at different body parts and how the damage system can link to it, like sometimes the gloves collide with the other player's shoulder or gloves and it didn't seem to register the punch. I have some ideas: You could add a DJ on the side playing a track. You could add rag doll physics and a medic that picks up the opponent that lost. You could have electric particle effects on the ropes of the ring. Add Ziggy as a spectator. Cool video :D!

suggestion; same as I said in the previous video! combine the health and stamina system, damage decreases the stamina, making you have less ability in the fight, up until the hitpoints are depleted fully, in which case, you DIE. Also, just spitballing: sweat particles? haha just kidding... unless? and-I think the idea you had for the punch particles (that there would be options for which theme you want) is a great idea! Also, the boxing character you have is such a perfect combination, the colours and model really attracts your eyes onto the video, which is the reason I found you in the first place :D

I'm sure it would be hard to impliment, but be worth it in the end. If the particles were sorted behind both of the players, so there is never overlap. It would make it possibly look better, and not as distracting.

I had a couple of ideas I just had to write them all: - How about a deflating flying head animation for a K.O. - To add some variety without the hassle of creating new models how about different materials for skins or unlockables? Metallic balloons, rock, wood, rubber, etc... You really inspired me with these vlogs. Much respect from México (I hope I make it to the board)...

You might try adding slo-mo and the comic sprites on critical hits. If a punch lands really hard, maybe have it slow down, big spray of particles, and a big pow/epik behind the character, like KO effects in some fighting games. Really digging the development videos, thanks for sharing your journey!

Suggestion :- make the environment interactive Like when you hit something like the corner bag like structures, they spit out foam and become deflated Also use Jojo as reference, the katakana effects and the punching ghosts (stands) Like you can use star platinum's punches as a reference to make the punches extra noice

Brilliant editing as always! Enjoying the longer vids. Its feels like every week you hit another "milestone" so that's EPIK! And, also you got nothing to bet that that was the problem XD. I think the comic book writing looks great, bit I think it needs to look more cartoonish and more bland if that makes sense, like the game art design stuff is not very detailed and I think the comic book words should be less detailed. I really like the damage system, it looks really good and it will give players something to try and master! Like they will understand how hard they want to hit, the amount they need to pull back, the angle on where they need to punch and other good stuff like that! I think it will make pvp fights very interesting and it will mean luck will not be the reason they win, but the quick reactions and skill. Stay safe and Epik as always, cant wait for the next devlog!
