Love this video, I'm a groomer for a living and you did a great job! I have a spoo too, 10 months old and in training for SD work.

How do you put the rubber bands in? I have a black toy poodle and she's 6 lbs, I want to band the forelock between/above the eyes. What size bands should I get and and how do you get those tiny little things in place? The bands her groomer uses are about 3/8th of an inch. Thanks everso....

What was the first detangling product? The one with the white and purple label that you mentioned being slick? Enjoyed the video a lot! I'm am looking forward to my dog's topknot getting long enough to "fix"

Wow she is beautiful! What size of blade is her body? It looks amazing.

Thank you! I shave her body on #9, the longest on our clippers. It’s short so watch out around elbows & chest because if you’re shaving a poodle their hair grows in swirls a lot of times so it’s really easy to accidentally have a spot in those areas that’s shorter 🙈

Got it, thanks!!! I have been doing it with 4 and I recently bought a 7FC , it would probably be pretty similar if I use it in reverse @@JenFarrer

Do you shave Phareby yourself? A tutorial on that would be helpful! Thank you for this video. Did you train here how to be calm when getting groomed or is she naturally like that?

I do groom her myself. When she was about 10 weeks old I started making her sit on a “grooming tote” (that is fancy words for a Rubbermaid tote 😅) while I was brushing her. Like every single time. That way she learned that small space was for grooming & she shouldn’t wiggle around too much since there wasn’t much space. Her breeder had been shaving the puppies feet & faces since they were a few weeks old so she was used to that. She is the first poodle I’ve ever groomed so I had to learn. Next time I shave her I’ll try to remember to record it. I think we might have a video on it on her Instagram, under the “get ready with me” highlights. Oh & the other thing that really helped was brushing daily on the tote, even though she really didn’t need it as a baby & I shaved her feet, face & tail area weekly. That went on until she was about 7 months old. It was just to enforce that behavior. When their babies they really don’t know any different. As long as you just act like it’s normal they kind of go along with it 😬 For older dogs you might have to bribe them a little & go slower. If you decide to use a tote make sure it’s filled with something heavy so it won’t tip over & filled up so the lid won’t cave in if your dog is heavy.

How long does it take you each morning to re-do her topknots? I am looking at possibly getting a spoo and this was very helpful!

Hi 😊 since I had grown her coat from a puppy and we had been banding the whole time along it only took about 15 minutes a day to re band her topknot. I think it’s really important to mention that the daily brushing we did as a baby, before she had enough hair to band, really taught her how to act and made it a lot easier when it came time to start banding her hair. When she was going through her puppy coat change, I had to brush morning and night because her hair got matted. That went away pretty quick. You could also shave them during that time and just have a full adult coat grow back in and it would be easier to manage. When I had her in a modified continental cut it took about 45 minutes a day to fully line brush her. I shaved her topknot off for the first time ever last week and now I still brush her for about five minutes a day because she enjoys it and also I want to make sure she is used to it in case I decide to let her hair grow out again in the future. I think I’ve already said this but teaching them how to act on a grooming table from day one it’s gonna help you a ton throughout their life. I’m responding on my phone and it won’t let me scroll up to see the whole message at once so there is a good chance I have repeated myself a few times in this response 🙈 Anyway, if you have more questions, feel free to ask. I’m happy to help you!

@@JenFarrer thank you so much for such a complete response! I think it is definitely important to get them used to being touched and "handled" early, I like your suggestion about the Rubbermaid crate to stand on. And I really appreciate knowing the time you spend. This will definitely help me in my decision.
