Hi, I really like your design. Thank you for creating this video. I was able to build one and this is my first project. I sent you the pictures. The only issue I had was with gopuram. It was very painful to get it close to what you have. I read through all the comments and some of them faced exactly the same set of issues I did. Cutting the crown molding with 7 1/4 miter was not easy and in your video it was kept an angle which I was unable to do with my 7 1/4 miter saw. After lot of research, I set the bevel angle at 33.9 and miter angle at 31.6 but the issue with that was the angle was super steep and it came out flat at the top and it did not have enough depth at the top to hold finials with out edges popping out.

Excellent work! We made a similar one following your vedio and turned out great. I am at the stage of painting the whole thing. I see the stores carry 2 varieties of polyurethane coat. There’s spray like the one you used and there’s a can and we need to use brush to apply the coat. Does it matter which one we use? Is the spray easier to apply than the one with brush. Is the shine going to be the same?

Hello.. I am so impressed with your work. You work like a professional. I watched your video repeatedly as I want to make two level gopuram. It would be really helpful if you can help me with the measurements of for the moulding. I am using the existing cabinet and the gopuram base is 36"x20". Almost same size size as yours. I have learned that HomeDepot/Lowes can do the cutting for you. Do you think it will be a good idea? OR If i get the MiterBox, can i do it myself?
@diy-doityourway3779
@diy-doityourway3779 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Measurements depend on multiple factors like if you are using any trim on top before the actual gopuram starts, if so width of the trim etc. For example if you use a 2inch trim around on top, the length would be 26 inches (30 -2 -2) and width will be 16 inches(20-2-2) for first level. Homedepot/Lowes does the cutting but they do only straight cuts and wont do cuts for a specific project. So I would recommend getting a cheap miter saw or a miter box and hand saw so you can make the cuts per your build.

Thanks. You can use hand saw and a miter box for trims and 44 degree cuts. And for plywood home depot or lowes can cut the plywood to desired dimensions. So you can definitely get this done with minimal tools but would take time and a bit of more effort. The list of materials and cost is linked in the video description.

Thank You. I use the default inclination angle that comes with the crown molding (usually 45 degrees) and do a 45 degree miter cut just like in video. If this is the first time working with crown molding I would recommend using Crown Stoppers for miter saw.

When cutting the crown molding, make sure you place it at the same angle you intend to put on the gopuram and the. Do the 45 degree cut. It seems people have had issues with gopuram and crownmolding. I cant promise but I will try to make a video in a week or two on how to cut crownmoldong with miter box for gopuram.

Good morning sir, First of all thank you for inspiring me and my friend to do this DYI. I have built the exact same model and dimensions that you have mentioned in this video and I am struggling with the top crown molding cuts. the top 3/4" plywood board is 36X16, and like you mentioned I have used 3 inch beaded casing moulding on the borders. That left 10X30 in the middle. I have cut 1st layer of 4 inch crown modling that you used @45 degree angles. For the second layer of the same 4inch crow molding I am not able to fit in with in the space. if it is not too much burden can you please share the crown molding cuts and specs (length, angle etc) for the top gopuram. Also can I email pictures/call you for 3-4 min to get the guidance and insight?
@diy-doityourway3779

Hello sir. I get what you are saying. If I understand correctly you were able to cut the first tier of the crown molding and you do not have enough space for the top most. I ran in to the same issue when I built my first one. The way I mitigated is increase the inclination angle on the crown molding. When cutting the crown molding bring the bottom of crown molding closer to miter fence which will increase the inclination angle. Follow the same inclination for both top and lower crown molding and you should have enough space on top. You can email me directly at diyaddict2016@gmail.com with pics and any questions

@@diy-doityourway3779 - "When cutting the crown molding bring the bottom of crown molding closer to miter fence which will increase the inclination angle" - does this mean that you still keep 45 degree cut on miter, however reduce the angle of inclination of crowmolding to the miter wall?
@diy-doityourway3779
@diy-doityourway3779 4 жыл бұрын
Yes that is right. You still do the 45 miter cut but bring the base of crown molding closer to the miter fence so when Installed the gopuram is more steeper. Hope this make sense. If not email me and I can help you over there. And good luck with the project.
