Bro, you have a seriously underpowered heat pump if you’re only getting 3-5° out of it. I have installed Raypak crosswind I-65 heat pumps and they deliver a 10° rise in temp at 30gpm. The Raypak 144k BTU heat pump can deliver a 10° rise at 40-60gpm. Also I am in Iowa and Heat pumps are fantastic here in the summer months because of how hot it gets here.

Today I turned on my heat pump. High of 91 and low of 60. I live in AZ. Its going to get warmer over the next week. I run the heat pump from 10am to 5pm when I run the pump which is when the sun is shining and I have solar panels. Not really using the AC now so its not much cost to heat. The main reason I have this heat pump is because it is reversable. In the summertime I run it at off peak hours which is 9pm. I am able to cool my water everynight down to 82. By the time I go swimming at the end of the day the water goes up to no higher than 85 or 86. I am glad that I have this feature. Most people around me will say that the water gets to 96 to 98 in the summer and it is not refreshing and so they don't use their pool. Not the case here.

I live in Michigan and I would think retailors would have the best sales going into fall since people are closing their pools and pool suppliers might want to get rid of inventory. @@brandonj.9638 Hayward has a separate heater for Above Ground/Smaller pools (up to 13,000 gallons). Unfortunately pool heaters are such a specialty item that they tend not to go on sale in the off season. So if you do see one that's discounted, it's probably because a newer model is hitting the floor.

Do you have a video on how to set up a cold climate pump house for semi inground pool? I’m reading the equipment needs air flow so the motor doesn’t over heat but I want to keep it from freezing in the winter so the pump can continue to heat the pool and move water. If I let the cold air in then the pump house won’t stay warm. But if I keep the pool house warm then the motor overheats. What’s the solution? Do I put the pump house under the concrete decking? Do I leave it in a tiny shed above ground? What insulation techniques do you use

Who uses their pool when it’s below 50 degrees? It’s not a hot tub, heating the pool during the late spring to early fall would extend most people’s pool season in the cooler climates, and that’s all we’re looking for. Not to use it when it’s below 50 🥶

The video was saying using the heat up during the winter, winters here in New York that would be like using it like a hot tub. That’s all I was saying.

My fiberglass pool shell has a hot tub section. The pool heater can be used to either heat the pool or the hot tub. We definitely use the hot tub portion in the winter, so a heat pump likely wouldn’t be a good fit.

Heat is energy. When refrigerant is compressed, it increases energy, rising sensible temperature. High temp likes to occupy lower temp space. Counter flow in this instance is where the heat transfer happens between the refrigerant coil and water coil. Typically a tube in tube coil. The Warner temp is rejected to the water being circulated in the pool, and the cooler temp is rejected to the atmosphere.

Above ground 18ft round with middle dug out and one 57 morning cooled me out. Still hot and humid outside but the water just never got warm enough again. Help! Will this help here?

I am in South Florida so heat pump looks like a great option. I also have mini split AC in my house (heat pumps). Can I harvest the heat from these units to help heating the pool? We run AC (cooling) even in the winter, and that's the time of year we would most need to heat the pool. Outside daytime temperature is 70-85 degrees on most days in the winter. I am trying to figure out the system to heat the pool only on the "cold" days and to also heat the water in the spa.

I have an indoor, inground pool south of chicago. The gas heater I use is extremely expensive to operate. I don't plan to use it in winter, just an extended summer, starting in spring and running into fall. I have asked Raypak about installing it in the basement and replace their heater/boiler. They say not possible. Even installing it in the room with the pool would be great. It would remove the overheated humid air to heat the water. In there I would still have to winterize it, just as outdoors, to prevent freezing of water in the heater and plumbing. Any answers?

We have noticed ALOT of condensation (like a puddle). Just verifying that this is normal behavior. Additionally, is there a cadence on replacing the freon? TIA

I don’t know if anyone answered your question about “ replacing Freon “ . Freon is in a sealed system… if there isn’t a leak , you don’t need to change it .

We have an 8,000 gallon 18 ft above ground pool. I bought a heat pump and when it was still in the 90's outside, our water was 78 (loads of shade trees all around). I connected the heat pump and within 2 days we had the water at 88. Eventually peaked at 90. It was WONDERFUL. Then we got our first cool front and temps were 70's during the day and low 60s at night. Water plunged down to 76 very fast even with heat pump running. Is that normal? Also, would it do any good to use a space heater in the event that we were going to have friends over for a weekend as a short term measure to try and help give the heat pump some hot air to work with?

I payed 2916kr (318 dollar) per month for my 9kW electrical pool heater and I now pay 78 dollar for my POOL HEAT PUMP. My pool is 60m3, or about 60,000L. I live in a colder part of the world my pool season is may-sept, I can extend if I combine heaters.

I love your videos - very informative and helpful. We have a. Above ground 21 ft 54 tall pool. Running a gas line is not an option, so we’re looking at an electric heater. We’ve been advised again getting an electric heater. What’s your opinion? We live in Ontario Canada, so not sure a heat pump would be a good option.

Heat pump is always the best option even if gas is available. Why. Because you'll save more there to run it than a gas heater for sure

@@JoeOrsak well Sir to put it simple. Fossil fuel pumps are only 80-90% efficient. AquaCal are a very good heat pumps. Should probably do more of a research on them heat pumps in general.

I understand how they work and I actually own one. I live in Houston, TX though and we have plenty of heat and plenty of humidity. Even here though when the temps drop below 50 it doesn't keep the pool nice and toasty.

I live in Alabama. Our winters are typically in the 40s, rarely in the 30s, but can get in the 30s. I have a 18,000 gallon pool with a 6 seater hot tub being built. Will a heat pump be able to heat my hot tub in the 30-40 degree weather? I will only use it to heat the pool when its likely 50-70 degrees outside, in the early spring and late fall. I was hoping to have one heater to operate both and I know heat pump would save a bunch of money in energy cost. Thanks for any feedback.

16000 gallon and it’s hard to say how much the heater adds because it’s always turned on. It does run that much once the water is up to temperature. I run my filter 24 hrs so that adds to my summer electric bill. It’s gone up about $80 a month. The heater can go days without running if we use the solar cover.

@@johnathanriddle2007 No to the variable speed. We had a ton of problems this year, so I stayed with the pump that came with the pool. This was our second full year. If we open with no problems next spring, I’ll probably go with a new variable pump. We spent so much trying to fix our water, I didn’t want to spend anymore money on a new pump too

Heat pumps DO generate heat. The compressor compresses the refrigerant and in doing so generates heat. Although most of the heat is picked up across the coil. As for "freon", freon is a registered trademark of the Chemours company, a spin off of Dupont. "Freon" was originally trademarked by Dupont (they now use Suva). Typically R410a is used in residential HAVC and pool heat pumps and is sold under many different names . I say that as calling the refrigerant "Freon" is a violation of the trademark and can be harsly fined should they decide do so. Restaraunts have been shut down and sued by Pepsi and Coke for representing their trademark. You've been helping us, just thought I'd return the favor with this info.

heat pumps do not generate heat (as in changing energy from one source to another , like burning wood , or gasoline) They transfer heat from ambient air to a refrigerant and then to the pool water . If a 10 cubic meter of a gas is compressed to 1 cubic meter , the temperature will rise but the overall energy will be the same .This is done so it's more efficient to extract the energy to warm the pool water in this case and your are able to reach higher temperature from the ambient temperature . It's called Gay-Lussac's law , Temperature = gas constant / Volume .

@@luckykl3492 if you put a refrigerator in a theoretically 100% thermally sealed room and run with the door open, temperature will rise because of the heat added by the compressor. Some of that heat goes directly into the compressed gas during compression. You arn't accounting for that, when you do heat pumps do generate heat themselves. In this case the energy input for compression is the wood.
