Aww… I feel for Momotaro, especially when he hid behind the fire hoses. I have seen him reacting before to men in white helmets, plus I saw the footage from when he was moved to this zoo. It must have been frightening for him, wrenched away from all he had known. I noticed that the men in this video carried their helmets. I wonder if they were instructed not to wear them when passing Momotaro’s enclosure?

Yeah, I agree. I think there's other connotations to it as well. When he was being moved from Ueno to Kyoto Zoo, he would have seen them transferring him, which likely made him fearful of them doing the same thing to his family. Not only separated from his mother, Momoko, but he was moved away from the zoo entirely, so he would lose his mother's scent I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but yeah it's pretty sad. 😐

I saw the video of the workers moving him. They jerked and rattled his cage, and they were overly talkative and unnecessarily loud. Nobody tried to make the transition smooth, calm or peaceful for him. No wonder he hates helmets!

I love how Momotro keeps a keen eye on what is going on around him. He doesn't move his head just his eyes. Genki is a great girl for him. Love this family, Glad he is there to protect them.

He really could. When I did my study with the chimpanzees, one of the caretakers told me that the silverback they worked with broke the glass in their enclosure. He kept his family inside though. It was like he wanted to show that he could get himself and his entire family out if he really wanted to.

White helmets bring back a memory of an event that caused him trauma, betrayal, bewilderment, anger, frustration…. He was kidnapped! Surrounded by white hats. Moved in a cage and loosed into a small environment! No wonder he is cautious. I would say more cautious than afraid!

Don't think it is fear but rather he is observing them. God help them if he got his hands of someone in a helmet as he would definitely go into protection mode for his family. The family would be aware Momo is not happy and they know if daddy not happy he can get very agro hence why Genki is helping keep him calm. His first and foremost job is to protect his group.

@@sumomomo-momomo-momonouchi703 さん 👷‍♂ターバンとか可愛い柄のタオル！ 名案です😁👏🏻 それくらい徹底してほしい。 あのときのモモタロウの恐怖心は想像を絶するものだったと思うから🥺 狭くて騒音だらけの暗い檻の中で何時間も…大勢の人達の中には、緊急時の銃を持っている人もいたりして…飼育関係者の方々は、お仕事を遂行しているだけでなんの罪もないのですが🙏🏻 恐怖とモモタロウのストレスを想像しただけでちょっと涙が出てきちゃいます😢 ゲンタロウは群れを離れる前に多分ですが分離の訓練をしますよね。 ゲンタロウにもモモタロウ達にもストレスを与えないよう段階的に離していくのでしょうね。 そのためのサブグラでもあるんだろうなと。 モモタロウ達にストレスなく無事にサブグラの工事が終わるよう祈るだけですね🙏🏻😊

Ik Momotaro used to love climbing trees when he was little to see monta the gorilla next door , tbh that’s how I think he grew so quickly he had a tree that was like 30 feet tall and he’d go to the top all the time to look at monta. Unfortunately monta and Laura are both stuck In Chiba zoo who actually owns momo Gentaro momoko monos mother. And they are alone everyday they eat alone sleep alone it’s so so sad they’ve tried to pair them up before but not In over 10 years gorillas are not solitary animals and therefore they both have unusual habits:( so so sad
