This is basically the JRB climbing system. If you disconnect the foot loop you can then add a garda hitch and rappel.

Its similar but it's done on a single line instead of a double

Good morning I believe you're explaining a poor man's SRT 4 years ago what's really interesting is I paid attention to your extension pole underneath your deer mount rack switch are a fantastic interesting you have that extension pole and it's kind of the same setup that jrb I guess it is is advertising about the Maverick Paul the same type hook on it just interesting you guys use the word redundancy and John's always using that too I wondered if you taught him or if he taught you or just in tree climbing it is all normal terms

@@frankrkovilaritchjr6404 Hey Frank , we’ve had a lot of influence over the yrs. Did we invent it , No ! I’ve been climbing trees in Tree care close to 40 yrs . So when Joe and I started this channel yrs ago yes we were some of the first to introduce this climbing style ( DRT , SRT ) and its application to the hunting industry. Since then there’s been lots of guys regurgitating the same thing to a degree . I tend to keep things simple ( KISS ) it’s what’s served me well and kept me safe all these years . There’s no substitute for experience. I wanted to create an easy/ safe system that a majority of hunters can use given their age, weight , level of athleticism or physical ailment that they can succeed at . The Half-line System Has achieved just that ! Again we didn’t create SRT. However we did create the application of how we can girth hitch our rope from the ground using half the rope we used to carry In conjunction with a determined length of paracord and our attachments we can now install it from the ground . We made a video using the extension pole to install our paracords 5 yrs ago . It was meant to show another option. It’s not something we use . I encourage people to perfect the throwball method because it opens more opportunities . And makes you a more mobile unit. Less is more ! As far as redundancy goes it’s something we both incorporate into our systems. As different as our systems are . They’re both built with redundancy and your safety in mind . JRB has put his own spin on rope climbing by creating a series of complex rope hitches that mimic the action of a mechanical hitch . Rope hitches are a time tested method but you cannot compete with the smoothness of mechanicals working in unison like the Vergo and CT Quickroll . You also cannot descend on a hitch without it feeling rather clunky and building excessive heat that will degrade both rope and hitch over time . These are all things I’ve learned , witnessed firsthand and overcame through a process of elimination. As I said I’ve relied on my yrs of experience keeping myself safe . Now my job is to educate and show you a way to keep yourself safe !!!

I have noticed there are a ton of trees that i cant or wont be able to rope climb in due to no low limbs or the tree has a tight crotch that no way ild even place my throw all line in.
@NYSaddleHunter3 жыл бұрын
This is where single stick technique comes in handy ! We are very fortunate living and hunting among the Appalachian chain of mountains. A endless supply of trees that lend themselves to DRT and SRT techniques with plenty of reachable crotches . However with single stick you can get into those telephone poles

@@Crayz919 it wouldn’t even come close to how smooth and easy it is to climb on the Half-line system. There’s a reason why I say it’s changing lives one climb at a time. !

I think this is very very cool! Nice work! I notice this similar setup in rock climbing for emergency situations.. they will use a clove hitch in the main line to the harness and tend it as they move up down. Do you feel the double prusik is safe enough with the extra bridge? Thank you for the video!!
@Crayz9195 ай бұрын
You cant disconnect foot loop and descend down by working prusik

Have you guys tried srt climbing with the JX3 hybrid saddle? I’m a bigger guy and the jx3 seems like it would be more comfortable providing more back support. Thanks!
@NYSaddleHunter4 жыл бұрын
No , neither of us have tried the JX3. I've seen others DRT climbing with a footloop with a JX3. I've always said the JX3 looks to be probably the most comfortable saddle to sit in but it's also the least minimalist saddle so its compromise is light minimalism for extreme comfort. I think if you're not hunting way back it's a great choice. If you have a real long trek in maybe one of the other saddles might be more appealing. However I hear the comfort is great.

I'm new to this and was wondering if its possible to use a Blake's hitch with a hand ascender and foot loop on an srt setup?
@NYSaddleHunter3 жыл бұрын
Not really because in DRT because its double rope system ( using both ends of the same rope over the limb) your cutting off half your body weight on the hitch so theres less pressure on the hitch. If you had 100% of your weight on a hitch you would have trouble decending. You would have to take pressure off the hitch to come back down. However you could climb that way , youd just need a better way to decend like a maybe a figure 8bor use a munters hitch but the gri-gri is just so convenient for both its worth the investment. Keep in mind if you buy one from Wesspur use NYSH promo code you'll get a 10% discount if you go that route.

Great content Joe! What are your thoughts on coming down from this climbing method with a super Munter hitch on a carabineer?
@NYSaddleHunter2 жыл бұрын
Yes a mutters hitch or a figure 8.
@darrenlewis70014 жыл бұрын
I will probably try that with a two Ditzels. I used Ditzel on my tether because it seems much easier to tend than Prussik. Prussiks after they get loaded don't tend very easily.

Yes I was thinking of using the distel hitch aswell or a mochican

First off I really enjoy the channel and all the info you guys share. So, I've watched alot of srt/drt videos recently and was wondering why nobody uses or mentions equipment like a SMC Spider,CT Sparrow or Petzl ID's or other auto braking descenders. Most people use Petzl Grigri, Beal Birdies or Madrock Safeguard & Lifeguard. Aside from the weight and cost of the forementioned dedicated descenders is there a reason? Possible comparison video? Look forward to your thoughts. Thanks

Thanks for the video, I'm looking to add SRT to my one sticking setup in case I drop something or want to get down quick to check an arrow and want to climb back up. So I don't want to add a lot of $$ or bulk to my setup. Question, would it work to switch your hitches, put on a tender and run the tag end through the foot loop carabiner for a mechanical advantage? Any concerns?
@NYSaddleHunter3 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to save the cost of the hand ascender you could simply add a hitch with a carabiner & footloop and do the same thing. It's not as nice as a hand ascender but it would work

You can do this with two rope mans right? Or are they not recommended for srt? Also I want to say if you can save up for a mad rock safeguard DO IT!! Basically a rope man and belay all rolled up in one. I had to try one and I think it is a very safe and well designed product.

Most definitely. We have a club close to us Joe and I are joining. The plan is to have a Hands on training seminar . Bring your own or we’ll have a variety of saddles on hand , climbing techniques , single stick , multiple platforms to try . Bring your bows we have a 3D course, food , drinks. Gonna be a good time. We’ll post available dates most likely starting this spring Joe Paese will be on hand to answer tons of questions related to Bow and Arrow tuning . He is a master bow technician with 35 yrs of knowledge on making your rig the most lethal weapon you’ve ever shot . See you there !!!

Looks very similar to JRB climbing method, but modified to one rope.
@NYSaddleHunter4 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm familiar with JRB method John's a friend of mine. This .method is really known as prussic climbing but I'm not using prussic hitch I'm using other hitches . In JRB method he adds 2 more mochican hitches and climbs both sides of the rope. I prefer my rope in a canopy hitch as it's fixed and can't ever move , plus this method eliminates 2 hitches in comparison to JRB method while still having two tie in points for redundancy. Just another way to do the same thing.

Howdy, Why do you choose 75' of rope for SRT Climbing, instead of 65' or so?

65' is long enough. i use a canopy tie with a paracord pull line tied to the tail of the figure 8 loop
