Those FA20s use a special fast set RTV for assembly. Available from Subaru. And it's depending how bad the spun bearing is determine if the bottom end is reusable. Those stock bearing in FA20s rather suck. Which is I believe their Achilles heal. If you rebuild you want aftermarket bearings with improved oil flow design, like King XPG. 👍

I definitely believe low mile oil change intervals and a high quality synthetic oil will really help extend the engine life and particularly the bottom end. I've used Amsoil 5w30 Sugnature blend since I bought my 2019 wrx at 16k miles and it's got 69k on it now and the internals look brand new all but. I also do plugs every 30k and with them I also walnut blast the valves

The problem is that people modify already stressed engine and expected to last . I would personally recommended to everyone to keep the car as stock as possible and enjoy it if more power is needed it for what ever reason I would recommended to simply save the money and build the engine and replace the old engine with a completely new build engine this way at least you have a core ready swap if the high power engine fails.

Well done, worth a sub! I share your frustration about the Subaru manual. Very hard to find stuff, and the English translation is weak. How much does an uninstalled new Subaru long block crate engine cost from the dealer?

Not sure about the cost of a long block, but our short block was $2300

do not be afraid to rebuild the blocks or good gears if its not been hot i bet that's were the to me myth is coming from is folks slamming them together with out using their f heads and checking stuff .i have seen it on a 4.7l jeep v8 rebuild.and when like in 7mge engine have location specific bearing sizes. but that goes away with a turned crankshaft

I have a 2018 WRX with the 2.0 liter motor. It appears to have the same issue as the engine in the video. The car has only 50k miles and is in ok to good condition otherwise. So, according to your video I am looking at $5k for parts, how much time to do the repairs? I am not a pro mechanic but can turn wrench. And, is it worth it to fix the car or should I sell it?

I'm not for sure why they would tell you to not rebuild the block I spun her rod bearing on my FA 20 no fuel pump failure or anything like that and it did the exact same thing metal through the whole thing shoot up my cam carrier cams etc. Iris literally replaced every single part and sensor really besides the block itself. I had my block machined by MAP performance I made a deal with them on building my motor My block was fine still om spec on the walls but I did have it bored out a little bit also had it closed decked with CSS machining basically drilling specific holes and passages so the block can get coolant through it and keep it cool since it's fused together. Had head games pocket port my heads new crankshaft manly pistons and trailer tough broad King XPG bearings the whole nine yards plus every fuel system upgrade basically any bolt on Plex TG EGR deletes turbo front mount grimm speed intercooler and a list goes on and on. With me doing dork myself besides having the short block machined and my head's done I'm in that motor for in the upper 20,000 range so if you guys are looking to actually build a high horsepower built FA 20 plan on having deep pockets especially if you're going to pay somebody to do it I couldn't imagine what that cost would be. My setup right now is 600 awhp set up then this winter going to get what I need for Port injection and possibly go to a radium dual low pressure fuel pump and go for the 7750 area. Frost plugs are also weak point on it The rods himself are known for bending about 350 will horsepowers with the factory rods are good for. And then breaking them in there's a definitely a special way to break them in they're not like normal other cars they're just different animals in general but if you got the money to play we can have a fun car that makes a lot of jaws drop at the same time you could have bought a 60-70,000 car after the price of your car and the rebuild lol

So this is speaking from an uneducated perspective but would there be a possibility of using an engine washing machine for the cleaning of metal shavings to reduce costs or is there still to high of a risk involved?

i wish i had the ability to work on these engines over and over again so I could just make it a viable niche profession like subi performance, but... there's no way to self-teach this it seems without spending big bucks each time along the way.

I rebuild these engines here in Jamaica all the time and it is expensive but not that expensive, your block can be rebuilt if the main bearings are not spun, cam sprockets can be disassembled and checked for wear, oil pump can be disassembled and also checked, oil cooler definitely should be dumped and that engine does not use that much rtv because in your video the amount you are using is way too much it will only break off eventually and block an oil galley somewhere surfaces are machined needs a thin layer it won't leak, spun rod bearing 90% of the time is detonation from lean fuel mixture, direct injectors most times are dirty have them professionally cleaned and change in tank fuel filter. You spent way too much.

need some advice: i got a 2015 xt touring with ~97Kmiles and not even 10 yrs old.Ive had 2 transmission replacements under warenty already the car missfires and throws p0304 when they scoped the cylinder they saw burnt cracked valve. What should i do? sell it? the car is in really good condition other than the misfire. I don't run the car hard and do my normal maintenance with high qualify mobile1 and only use shell91. stealership wants 4k to just drop the engine no parts and labor. SoA not geting back to me.
@PoorManMods
@PoorManMods 6 ай бұрын
That is a really tough call that really only you can decide what to do I would imagine a shop is probably going to charge you $10,000 to replace that valve all said and done. Whether they repair the valve or just replace your engine, they're probably going to charge you at least 10 grand. You just have to decide if $10,000 or whatever they charge you is worth keeping a vehicle or if you should cut your losses and get something else

good video thanks i like subaru engines i would like to cram a h6 say 2006 year into a baja with a manual trans.. teens of thousands lol its an engine wow just funny to me on how those numbers .titanium valves custom what being facetious and serious a mean if the block is good not heat wraped and even then be a great reason to swap in a h6 turbo but that has it own issues in no donor car but if one has a doner car seems logical
