"Midnights stole Tortured Poets' album of the year." I couldn't agree more. If only one of the two can get AOTY, I think TTPD deserves it more. But it had the misfortune of being released second, and Midnights further benefitted from the popularity of the Eras tour and Taylor being THE MOMENT in 2023.

Same. I’ve always said that for the 2024 Grammys, midnights didn’t deserve it, but Taylor Swift did. The tortured poets department, while having its flaws, feels more complete of a project and has a more definitive conclusion than midnights, the whole message being: the story is over, moving on to the next act.

Taylor did submit The Eras Tour Movie for Best Music Film. In my opinion this was the biggest snub of the year, even bigger snub than Ariana with Eternal Sunshine and We Can't Be Friends. In my opinion they didn't even nominate her because it would've been a guaranteed win for her. In my opinion The Eras Tour Movie snub is the same case as when All Too Well (10 Minute Version) didn't win Song Of The Year. We have to keep in mind that the Grammy committee are industry people. Both with Taylor's Versions and The Eras Tour Movie Taylor went against the music industry system to both prove a point and be in full control of her career. If they let her win it would basically confirm she is right and and would motivate more artists to do the same as her. Record labels and industry executives won't give up their power that easily, so they snubbed her.

20:08 totally disagree about Cowboy Carter not being infused with Beyonce as a person and artist. Throughout the album, she is telling you this IS who she is, her heritage, what she has felt and been through. I feel so much of her personality and passion throughout the album. I think she is more Beyonce than she’s ever been on this album, bringing together the Texas girl with Creole roots with everything she’s felt and been through, and a range of genres to express it.

I came to the comment section to express a different viewpoint on Cowboy Carter and Beyonce than was presented. I am glad so see the comments here. The longest conversation was about this album and I'm sorry to say I had to skip so much of it because I found myself getting frustrated that a large part of the album was being missed. This album is a letter to America that we are a racist country and we need to address it or we are going to die. It is a story of her history, her ancestors history, her struggles, her hopes. CC is 100% about her, and it is a conversation about America's greatest sin, racism. She does it while taking sounds that have been connected to white artist (including 60s and 70s pop and rock) and making them her own and at the same time claiming that these sounds would not be possible without Black America, because Black America is interwoven in American history, not separate from it. In my opinion, this album is the smartest and most challenging in her career. she is not only pushing music boundaries, she created a dissertation on race. My opinion on Ariana. The Grammys is a respected award ceremony. If she has been very public about disrespecting them, and they continue to nominate her, it opens the door for disrespect among all artist towards the Grammys. This could be a clear sign that if you are vocal about not caring about the Grammys then they are going to reciprocate that feeling.. this can motivate future artist to bite their tongue in the future .
@Marie781732 ай бұрын
Grammys should be objective though, it's all about the music and not how artist behave. And they reinforced this feeling again this year when the CEO sent grammy voters a letter saying this sooooo if it's that it says more about them than her. If her work is submitted then they should only lok at the material she's giving and what she brought to music and not personal drama and things like this.

Midnights winning AOTY at the 2024 Grammys is still a bit confusing to me. Obviously I love that Taylor won AOTY again and broke a record, but Midnights seems like an outlier compared to the other 3 albums that won (Fearless, 1989 and folklore: 3 different genres, 3 different decades, 3 amazing albums) and if I was gonna swap Midnights out for another Taylor album for AOTY it would be either Red or TTPD. I think why Midnights might have won AOTY (and why TTPD probably won't win) is to do with the context surrounding the release of the album. Midnights was a surprise to everyone because not only did she announce it at an award show we just got 2 Taylor's Version projects in 2021 and no one was expecting the next project to be a brand new album. Also, Midnights made Taylor the first and only artist to take over the entire top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and Midnights had the novelty of the Eras Tour to help promote it (especially since at the start it was THE baby of the TS discography family). With TTPD, we saw all of these things again. She announced it at an award show after putting out another 2 Taylor's Version projects in 2023, it took over the top 10 of the hot 100 and was added to the Eras Tour setlist. Because we had the same pattern happen again with TTPD that happened with Midnights I think that probably made all the non-swifties and Taylor haters be fed up with TTPD and not give it the love it deserves. Apologies for the long message. Hope you have a good day 😊
@leathebarbie2 ай бұрын
Midnights perfectly makes sense as an album of the year. Every AOTY win for Taylor taps into a new genre. Midnights is a polished bedroom pop record, 1989 is a polished synth pop record, Folklore is a polished alternative record, and Fearless is a polished country pop record. All of her other albums fail to belong to a cohesive sound, which is why they didn’t win in my opinion.

Here’s the thing. It’s not a bad album, but imo, the album focuses much more on vibes and atmosphere than actual lyrical substance. And while I liked some of the production, I also get what Zach siad when he said that it felt like the same thing she’s been doing.

I attended weekend 2 of Austin City Limits back in oct 2024 , there were about 90K people in attendance for Chappell's set at 6:45 PM. more than half of them were standing there for hours in scotching heat of Texas (it was 100 degree F that day) fainting yet not leaving their spots. Most were there since the time gates of the festival opened in Morning at 10:30 AM. Can anyone else nominated in the new artiste category pull this kind of crowd.

Chappell not getting “best new artist” would be the giant elephant in the room for the academy, personally, because she’s had an incredible year and skyrocketed this debut album with very little marketing influence from the actual industry,, and not that many artists can say that. Sabrina Carpenter doesn’t define “best new artist” for me as much as Chappell. Sabrina had her time for artistic growth in 2014-2022 and released a number of albums to show the world what she could do and it just didn’t stick with the academy. If there was a “best comeback artist” award this year, sure it would go to her, but I wouldn’t give her “best new artist”.

No matter how technically “good” an album is on paper, if it doesn’t resonate with people, in majority, it’s not going to get nominated. That’s how i feel about Ariana’s so called “snub.” The internet is obsessed with that album but talking to actual friends and family, nobody cared about that album after first listen. I personally found it pretty boring. Taylor and Billie keep getting noms year after year not only because great work but because people relate to the music and vibe with those songs on some level. I think that’s why Chappell and Charlie’s albums did so well.

She ruined her chances of winning with her bad attitude. They nom her for her art but wont award someone with bad behavior.
@creepypapermultipack2 ай бұрын
@@rydbthatsme if establishing healthy boundaries and demanding that she and her friends/family aren’t stalked or treated poorly because even though, yes, she is a celebrity, she is also a human being constitutes as “bad behavior” then I think more people should behave “badly”. Women, even women who are celebrities, don’t own anyone shit, especially whatever bullshit expectations of politeness society demands of us (that oftentimes results in our being harmed in some way). She has every right to call out the predatory and harmful behavior fans and the media have normalized when it comes to celebrities, which is a much worse kind of behavior than her calling them out on it. The way she is being treated (and fighting against) is the same treatment female pop stars/celebrities have been subjected to for decades with horrible consequences to said celebs and then we look back and rightfully critique the media and fans for their behavior (Britney Spears is one of many examples). Everyone deserves basic respect and autonomy, even celebrities. And besides, they should be awarding her for the art/work, not her “bad attitude”. You want Sabrina Carpenter to sweep and that’s cool, dude. I want Chappell to sweep. Either way, they’re both talented and have done amazing work this year and though, yes it’s technically a competition for an award, all the pop girlies got crowns and Chappell and Sabrina deserve their flowers. We don’t need to shit on one to uplift another.

I agree with Madeline on her opinion of Hit Me Hard And Soft being a contender because of how the Grammys think. They like a cohesive album. (See Red losing album of the year in 2014) Each song from HMHAS transitions into the next smoothly because of Finneas' production. The final track BLUE (a sample from a Billie song from 2016) takes a line from every song in the album to finish cohesively. I believe that Billie and Finneas tried to make a Grammy centered album. We will see if this has held her back or helped her win.

My biggest snub was Megan thee stallion I generally find it weird how the Grammys have treated her career/success after giving her best new artist in 2021 very weird all of the previous and recent best new artist winners have been recognized even in bigger categories after their wins including dua lipa, Billie eilish, Olivia roderigo and Samara joy but for Megan she’s only had 1 nomination for thot ish and that’s it. Traumatize was robbed from multiple rap categories and now self titled again it’s much worst bc at least traumatize was overshadowed by the Tory lanez drama and her former label sabotaging the rollout/promo but self titled was executed, commercially successful and critically well received, plus Megan was everywhere from Kamala Harris presidential campaign to hosting the VMAs and giving MTV its highest ratings in years to selling out and breaking records on her debut international headlining tour, I feel hiss would’ve been a great option for record of the year and cobra for song of the year, while Megan swept up the rap nominations, I was hoping Megan would follow up Lauryn hill and cardi b footsteps in winning best rap album of self titled was nominated. I think there should be a bigger discussion to how the Grammys treated black female hip hop artists after not only breaking out both in hip hop and pop music but sustaining it and even rivaling both male rapper and female pop singers in relevancy, cultural impact, critical acclaim and commercial success.
