*You are a Godsend.* I hope you know how happy you make me, finding this channel means everything to me!💕 I'm autistic and I've always, always had a passion for making things in paper and clay (cards and miniatures especially) and pop-up books fashinated me from a very young age. But I've been recovering from a very dark episode in my life, when I lost my ability to do most things, and I couldn't continue to go to school :( I have an upcoming project I've been working on in my mind for MONTHS now, and all I hear is voices inside me that I can't do it, and learning new things and following instructions is hard for me, so I tend to give up and just cry about it.... I know, lame, right? 😩 Anyway, I want to thank you for being SUCH a good teacher and not just inspiring but MOTIVATING me to keep trying and do things step by step. You have filled a deep void in my life, and I wish I could express my gratitude to you in a greater way. *Thank you SO much!* 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 Love, Rosie.

He is a calming terrific teacher. I’m sure you’ll make some beautiful projects and perhaps share them with the rest of us some day. Part of the problem with being creative is managing what’s in our heads and getting it out! You are not alone!

At 5:25 mark of your video the use of the pull strip isn't just an image behind a window. How would you get the image change to seemingly appear from slots and lock in?
@thepop-upchannel4919
@thepop-upchannel4919 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you've spotted a clever variation. I may do a video on this later in the year.. The design in the book is based on the simple pull strip but with some additions. There is quite a big piece of card (A) attached to the back of the page behind the window. There are two additional pieces of card attached to the pull-strip that are pulled down as the strip is pulled. The bottom of the lower of these two is attached to the strip and even when the strip is pulled down the top edge of the piece must remain between A and the back of the page. Similarly the upper piece - its top is attached to the pull-strip and it's bottom edge must remain between A and the back of the page even when the pull- strip is all the way up. How to control the direction and amount of movement is explained in the tutorial. I hope this helps.

It would be greatly beneficial if you could provide a schematic with measurements of the parts so I can better comprehend their scale and positioning.

Hi Duncan-I absolutely love this channel!! I’m learning so much. How can I buy your book “Pop-Up!:A Manual of Paper Mechanics” without spending a fortune. Will you be reprinting this book soon? I already have your first book “Pop-Up Design and Paper Mechanics”. Love this book so much. I’d love to learn more about pivoting mechanisms.

“Pop-Up Design and Paper Mechanics” is the most recent of the two books. It's a much higher quality print job and much more user friendly. I wrote "Pop-Up!:A Manual of Paper Mechanisms" before I understood the subject as well as I do now! It does have a few pull-tab mechanisms that are not covered in the newer book, but apart from that I wouldn't really recomend it! I don't think it will be reprinted. I see there is a copy available on Amazon... there are also various placs on line where you can find a pdf. I am currently working on another book about the more complex mechanisms that have been invented in the last few years. Hopefully it wont be too long before this is available.

Amazing videos. But I believe there are some softwares to accomplish this, like Photoshop, After Effects, InDesign or OpenToonz. Does anyone know about this?
