Daft Punk were the DJ's at End of the Line. They did the entire score. Tron 3 started filming last month (January 2024). As always, a great reaction. This film was wondrous on that big screen (even more than the original that I saw, as a child, when it first came out...and that was mind-altering for a youngster). Glad I saw this with my own sons.

Unfortunately per the reports Tron: Ares is going to be a total reboot of the series and not a sequel to Legacy. Tbh I don't understand this move, the only thing that come's to my mind now is that Disney will ruin another franchise with un-needed reboot to "meet the standards of the modern audiane". Oh and its produced by and starred as titular role by Jared Leto....

Beautiful though it looks, there's no logical reason for a 3d virtual environment in this film because it's not a game environment but rather an OS designed by Clu. At least in Tron 1 the reason for it being 3d was because the whole setting was a virtual game environment designed by Flynn. Also characters being called programs rather than PCs and NPCs , is again not in keeping with gaming vocabulary.
@The2ndQuest
@The2ndQuest 7 ай бұрын
@@kristinaF54 Flynn intentionally created it to be a virtual environment. He didn't actually design the world of the Grid in Tron 1- he only discovered it after the MCP zapped him. He then took the inspiration from that to start creating his new Grid (and the subsequent obsessions with "digital frontiers" and virtual worlds). Including the Programs as sentient lifeforms instead of just the avatars of simple computing functions. Likewise, keep in mind that Flynn created the new Grid in the 1980's, and was trapped in 1989. He wouldn't know about later popular gaming vocabulary (and, given that he's basing everything on his experiences in 1982, he would be unlikely to want to stop referring to them as Programs since that is what they called themselves on the original Grid).

A funny nugget of information is that this movie was shot in 3D (many movies are converted later), which gives the image an extra crispy look (especially in dark areas) in 3D theatre. Combined with Daft Punk's music (who were sometimes present on set to feel the movie's mood), this movie truly was a cinematic experience. I went to IMAX 3 times and was blown away by the movie's atmosphere every time. What I am trying to say that this movie is little bit like a music video - watching it in the correct settings truly elevates the experience.

8:26 This is the actual TRON arcade game that was made by Bally Midway and was available in video game arcades in 1982! And that’s how the game really looked on its screen! So many of us who were kids, teenagers and young adults back then played this very same game, Cassie! And the Journey tune “Separate Ways” (from 1983) playing in the background? A little reminder of Journey’s contribution to the TRON soundtrack back in 1982 with the song “Only Solutions,” which played over the end credits.

I also remember that Journey got their own arcade game, also made by Bally/Midway around the same time (early 1980s) to capitalize on the band's success on both radio airplay, concert ticket sales & their hit album "Frontiers" -- if the player completed all 5 minigames (each centered on 1 band member), they moved onto the final game of the current level which involved the entire band on a concert stage performing "Separate Ways" (played back via a prerecorded tape installed inside the arcade cabinet) while the player attempted to block crazed Journey groupies from swarming the stage!

- Garrett Hedlund, who plays Sam Flynn, is more of a character actor now. He played Patroclus, cousin of Brad Pitt's Achilles in Troy: he was Murtagh in the film Eragon, based on the Christopher Paolini novel: and he has a list of films he turned down like Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games films and Christian Grey in 50 Shades of Grey. The most recent thing that I saw him in was the Paramount Plus series Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone. - Daft Punk were comprised of the French musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. They had a lot of dance and electronic hits. They had a huge hit with "Get Lucky" with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. They have now disbanded. A fun taste of the music they made is the Daft Punk Medley by Pentatonix, an all a capella rendition of several of their most famous songs, that won Pentatonix a Grammy Award. Daft Punk actually are in the film, in their signature robot helmets in the club scene (23:24), when Castor/Zeus says, "Change the scheme, Alter the mood, Electrify the boys and girls, if you'd be so kind!" Daft Punk are in the booth. - Castor/Zeus is played by the brilliant Welsh actor Michael Sheen, who took the job because he loved the original Tron as a kid. Sheen is known for several films and TV series: He has been the main actor for Peter Morgan projects involving the Royal Family, playing former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Queen, The Special Relationship, and The Deal. He played David Frost on stage and then in the film version of Frost/Nixon opposite his stage partner Frank Langella as Richard Nixon. He was Lucian, leader of the Lycans (werewolves) in the Underworld films, and was Aro of the Volturi vampires in the Twilight Saga. He is mostly busy with projects with his friend David Tennant like the next season of Good Omens for Amazon (Sheen is an angel, and Tennant is a demon) and their web series Staged, a comedy created using Zoom technology during the lockdown. Must see films: The Queen (Helen Mirren won an Oscar as Queen Elizabeth II dealing with the death of Diana, Princess of Wales), Frost/Nixon (about the legendary post Presidency interview David Frost had with Richard Nixon), and The Damned United (where he plays Brian Clough, the manager of the Leeds United football (soccer) team in the 1970s). - There is a clue for Rinzler in being Tron, but repurposed...The chest piece Rinzler has is the same as Tron's in the first movie and the flashback. Center of the chest are three dots, and just under the second dot is a single dot, a total of four dots or squares. And when Rinzler says, "User" in the games after pinning Sam, it is Bruce Boxleitner's voice, even though Bruce is not playing Rinzler physically. - There were more films planned and because the movie didn't perform to expectations, the others were put on hold. There was also a Tron cartoon with Bruce Boxleitner's voice, alongside Elijah Wood, and Mandy Moore called Tron Uprising that lasted one season on Disney XD. There is a new Tron being planned called Tron Ares with Jared Leto, but not much is known about it yet.

Such a great movie. They did an animated series that’s between this one and the first Tron. It tells us what happened to Tron. The problem in this movie with the way Clu looks is due to Jeff Bridges beard. The computer couldn’t get an accurate view of his mouth moving cause they couldn’t put the dots around his mouth on his skin. It works for Clu though cause he’s a computer design from the old system but when they show Kevin when he was younger it doesn’t work that well. I love in this movie how they do callbacks to the original. Like when Sam goes into ENCOM he makes a remark about the door like his dad did. When Sam goes into his dad’s office at the arcade you see the hand held football game Kevin was playing.

Back in the 80s the first Tron game was exactly like shown in the movie, you raced light cycles, had battle tanks all the things you saw in the first movie. About a year later Discs of Tron came out. Essentially started with three platforms each, each level that would change from two up to five. initially you just threw on a level playing field, bouncing the disc off the walls and back wall to knock the opponent off his platform. Later rounds you could bounce off the floor and ceiling as well and the platforms would derez if they were hit by the discs. One of the greatest arcade games ever made. So many quarters in that thing... I coulda been rich!

No Cassie, the humans are not controlling the programs. They literally live their lives doing what their primary function is, BUT they are not actively monitored, as if "someone is playing a game." One of the coolest things about the making of this: I believe it was at San Diego ComiCon, they did an announcement event for the film. A HUGE crowd turned out to hear about the potential of a new Tron film, and while they were sparse with details, the filmmakers took the opportunity to get the crowd to chant a few lines, like "DISC WARS!" DE-REZ!" and "RINZLER!" Not sure if it's been surpassed yet, but I believe it held the record for the biggest crowd audio recorded for a film. 18:20: This was, I believe, the very first film to attempt digital de-aging. The technology has come a long way since, obviously. Marvel's been using it to great success, though I believe they also use more traditional makeup in conjunction. I don't think CGI is inherently bad, but rather that the best trick is the combination of tricks. If everything is CGI or puppetry or miniatures, it becomes easy to spot the trick and see through it. If you combine the elements well, and use each for what it's best at, I think some part of your brain admits it can't see through the trick, so accepts it as real.

Back in the late 1990's I had an idea for a Tron sequel. The game grid had been disconnected from the outside world for a long time, and the data center housing the mainframe that contains it is scheduled to be decommissioned because it isn't y2k complaint. The company doesn't know what's on the abandoned server. The hero discovers Flynn is still alive and must beat the clock before the server is shut down.

Loved this movie! Gets better every time I watch it. By saving Sam and Quorra; Flynn not only saved his son, but he saved a surrogate daughter and the ISO's from extinction. From my understanding, the ISO's were a spontaneous and new form of "life" which Flynn found in the grid. Just as computers and the grid were a digital frontier in the first movie offering revolutionary potential; in this movie spontaneous and "perfect" lifeforms in the form of ISOs represented a new and mysterious frontier with vast and unknown potential. He was fascinated by them and their existence since they were not created by any user or program like Clu; yet their random appearance represented the entry of a form of chaos into the well-ordered system Flynn and Clu had set out to initially create. They had digital DNA, as represented when they were looking at Quorra's corrupted and damaged data, and by the looks of it, had the ability to self-heal, if the corrupted data could be removed (maybe like reverting to a previously undamaged or un-corrupted state, like turning back time). So he theorized that untold secrets could be discovered by studying the ISO's, which could yield incredible advancements in technology that would result in possibly revolutionary discoveries that would advance human technology in the real world too. But I like to think that beyond just the technological promise the ISO's presented; Flynn also saw the budding relationship or possibility of a relationship between Sam and Quorra, and out of love for both, like any parent who loves their children, he would do anything to protect them from harm, even if it meant giving up his own life to do so. In this, the story perfectly marries the theme of the amazing technological and scientific potential of a unknown frontier such as the idea of digital life; with the very relatable and human aspect of parental love for one's children, focusing on the relationship and love of a father for his son, and as a son for his long-lost father. The soundtrack is also totally rad too.

Funny enough i always get emotional with this movie. Its a father/son film. The bond that love creates. And time nor absence erases. Flynn gave his existence up for his son. His son was his existence. He destroyed Clu and the grid so Sam would not get pulled in again. Clu could not get out. He was flawed. Kora was not flawed. Having no "creator" so no flawed programming. That part of the theme is more....complex. The creator vs the creation vs a new creation seemingly made by no one. Is the grid controlled by something else? Not known to its very own creator? Loved that you watched it with your boys. Great reaction.

Tron was identifiable early on. The pattern on his chest was the tell. It's the same as the original movie, just a different color. CLU repurposed him into Rinzler. (Apologies if this was touched on in an earlier comment). They're rare now, but you need to find someone with a 3D setup and rewatch this in 3D. This was the first movie I'd seen in the theater with the redone type of 3D that was much more depth than in your face. IMO, that was the much better way to do 3D. Back around 2012/2013, we almost got a sequel called Tron: Ascension. The script was written, the director from Legacy was back and many of the cast. It was canceled deep into preproduction due to the underperformance of Legacy (which did break even), the merchandise tanked for Legacy, and Disney recently bought a little franchise known as Star Wars. TRON Ares is a reboot and it isn't a sequel to the first two films

I wish we got that sequel, but I do think Tron: Ascension would have improved on Tron"Legacy's 400 million worldwide gross, but Disney screwed it up by cancelling the sequel and poorly promoting Tron: Uprising (along with all of the inconsistent scheduling of episodes and i do think the series was too smart for a Disney XD audience). Then Marvel didn't keep following up with comics to keep the brand alive other than two comic book mini-series around teh time of Tron: Legacy.
