We can not have Pope after pope resigning because he feels too old or tired to do the job. one pope in the 1600;s was elected at age 83. he apparently wept and told the Cardinals that he was too old and tierd to be the Bishiop of Rome and wondered why god would lay such a punishment on him in his old age but he accepted it as gods will and led the church faithfully for the remaining 7 years of his life. As a life long catholic I have mixed feelings about Benedict. First after following a literal saint on earth is hard. Second, I was an altar boy who I believe in guardian angels because I wasn't touched by an actual pedophile priest but so many boys were abused. We knew John Paul wasn't fully aware of what was going on because of his Parkinsons disease. But the cardinal definitely did. Also, the church rehab centers are a bad joke at best, and this scandal has cost the Catholic church billions of dollars now. Like any holy man, he has many positives but I am not sorry to say he protected people who should be in jail.

I remember when this great man was a cardinal and he gave the eulogy for John Paul II and it was perfect! I said this guy should logically be the next Pope! A few days later he was picked. JPII was a tough act to follow and he had to lead the church through some tough times. He did it with humility wisdom Justice and strength! Then, in a bold move, he retires! While JPII was a wonderful leader and probably the best of the modern era, the last few years of his Papacy, he was obviously very ill and frail. Pope Benedict16th knew this and didn't want to be seen in that light. He also knew that the modern Papacy is a job like being a president of a huge country, with meeting hundreds of people everyday, making huge decisions and traveling extensively. This requires a healthy and attentive person. He definitely should be commended for his prudent decision and has now set the precedence for the modern era!
