This really isn't so different from a presidential inauguration. I think you will see many parallels there. It's not easy to become pope. There are around 400,000 priests in the world. There are about 5,000 bishops and 209 cardinals. If one man can go through those ranks, then he must be special to God. Not only is he the sovereign head of the Vatican city, he also is our spiritual leader, and as such; a rolemodel. We cheer and applaud him just as much as any American would our president.

I cannot understand why the media wants to always find bad in everything. As a priest or even a cardinal in Argentina, you would have to play that role. Surely the objective is to create as much good as possible. Some situations, especially when two sides are fighting, means that someone will be hurt. To my mind, the good person tries at all times to minimise the hurt. It often means educating the rich and looking after the poor, which I understand is part of the Jesuit tradition.
