Often, when one thinks about the differences between Protestants and Catholics on Justification, your average Protestant and Catholic will both think of the difference like this...the Protestant believes in sola fide, which means faith alone, whereas the Catholic believes, in accordance with St. James, that we are justified by works and not by faith alone. Yet, we ought to recognize that this description is criminally simplistic and not at all sufficient for determining the differences that exist between Protestants and Catholics. In this video, I will compare the teaching of the majority among Reformed Christians, focusing on confessional documentation, and the various acceptable positions among Catholic authors, especially focusing on the Thomists.

Yeah, that agenda is the same as that of the *demons*, as Christ Himself specified that all are saved *by their own works of the law alone*, pure and simple; anything else is complete and utter garbage.

* what? What kind of a work is sin in the context of justification? * I never mentioned justification. I mentioned that which would please God. As opposed to the other which does not please God. The scriptures say... whatsoever has no basis in faith is sin. It is reasonable to conclude then that works of faith please God and we already know that works of sin displease him. So whatever you do in word or deed do that which will bring glory to God.

It’s Catholic teaching [Council of Trent] that the works done in grace merit both an increase in grace and the attainment of eternal life. So it’s not just the species of faith that produces works that saves, but the very works themselves which save. This is a fundamentally different view from Protestants, who believe that the fruits produced by a living faith are only the signs of justification. Session 6, Canon 32 “If any one saith, that the good works of one that is justified are in such manner the gifts of God, as that they are not also the good merits of him that is justified; or, that the said justified, by the good works which he performs through the grace of God and the merit of Jesus Christ, whose living member he is, does not truly merit increase of grace, eternal life, and the attainment of that eternal life,-if so be, however, that he depart in grace,-and also an increase of glory; let him be anathema.”

We do need non-meritorious works (not of the Law) to be saved. However, in practice, this can make a person unsure of whether they have "done enough," which is going back under a merit system of Law.

Obedience by faith. The just shall live by faith. Faith (in general) comes by hearing. Faith (specific to Christianity) comes from hearing God's word.

That's already known to be false, in truth, it is *works alone* as in "works of the law", as there's also the truthful stance that every single *demon* believes every single teaching of Christ, and they're known to be in Hell; so belief and grace are *meaningless*, as Christ Himself makes clear: what's needed is works!

Session 6 of the Council of Trent CANON I. If any one saith, that man may be justified before God by his own works, whether done through the teaching of human nature, or that of the law, without the grace of God through Jesus Christ; let him be anathema.
@chissstardestroyer
@chissstardestroyer 9 күн бұрын
@@AlexD-gy5qy Actually, since that remark contradicts the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we know that the council of trent is a heretical council, and nobody can adhere to it, or have adhered to it. Plus the remarks of trent contradict Christ Himself when He gave His own standards of discernment; so it really is that we *do* save ourselves; and any claim to the contrary actually removes God from the possibility of being good; hence trent is a *heretical* council and all those who have believed its teachings have sent themselves to Hell by their own choosing, irrevokably. Plus the writings of the Apostles themselves *within* the bible, and thus *directly FROM sacred tradition* that the demons themselves have all manner of grace and faith, so we know that it is by *works alone* that man's saved, specifically *works of the law*; as Christ Himself confirms when He gave His own standards of discernment about who's His coworker and who's diametrically opposed to Him: "As you did/didn't do" being His discernment standard: note: not "believed" not "received" so it never was faith nor grace, but *works alone*, and that's from Christ *alone*, hence trent is NOT at all valid, but is a heretical council, and all those who've believed in its teachings is in Hell forever due to obeying a morally bad instruction.
@chissstardestroyer
@chissstardestroyer 9 күн бұрын
@@AlexD-gy5qy Plus by trent having taught *that* heretical misbelief, their "god" is NOT God at all, but a literal *devil* as he has shown himself to be completely unjust.

"Knowing that we are justified by faith we have peace with God." Romans 5:1. "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the unholy, his faith is counted for righteousness." I love the way you Catholics always play word games. This is all done to twist scripture to justify Catholic lies.

Strictly speaking, it was the Protestants who played the word games, and it seems to have been more political than theological. Ie, no Protestant believes we are saved by "bare faith". The usual formulas are "REPENT and believe" "faith alone but not a faith that is alone", etc--essentially the Catholic formula, only they played word games to to snip this process from the necessity of communion with Rome. Hence, political more than theological. And like all political movements, it came with a few oversimplified slogans/rallying cries ("Faith alone" "Grace alone" "Scripture alone" etc). That's why Catholics typically don't say things like "we're saved by faith alone"; it's not that we really "disagree" with the Solas, it's just that they were politically sloganized against us during the Reformation
