I used to work at a Popeyes in high school and early college. We did have maggots however it wasn’t in the food that I knew of. The prep station in the back had a cloth wrapped around it which soaked up chicken juices (dumb design idk why) and Bc the cooks didn’t properly clean, flies/maggots made their home between the cloth and metal frame. Only found out when it started sagging. They blamed the smell on the flour all the time but I knew sum was up from all the gnats. Flies or something must’ve made their way in but then to be be on the chicken is crazy too because it was just fried and if they were there before frying, you wouldn’t even notice them, so there’s a bunch of maggots where they held the chicken. Not saying it’s absolutely impossible to happen at home but if you have eyeballs and cook your food proper without leaving it out for hours the odds of this happening at home are super low. Even if you do have maggots, there’s no way you’d get to the point where they’re on your plate unless you’re blind, a severe drug addict, or one of those people that lives in pure filth.

There were never maggots... Its the crust being soggy from laying there for maybe multiple hours. If chicken is rotten to the point there are maggots nesting inside, you wouldnt be in that kitchen.. the stench is unbearable. I worked in a kitchen a while ago and we had this cardboard container in the back, we received the chicken breast in cardboard boxes wrapped in plastic... The juices always went into the cardboard so we threw that away in the regular trash.. we had a dishwasher that collected that soaked cardboard and put it in the cardboard container... After a couple of days when you were in that area the stench was literally unbearable flies and magiots everywhere 🤮
