Hey everyone, welcome back to g8stromania. Today, my mom will be sharing her recipe on Popiah, a local snack. This dish is very similar to spring rolls that many poeple are familiar with. The difference is that it will not be fried and has many more ingredients. It's super customisable and everyone can just add their favourite ingredients! Perfect as a party food.
For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
800g Popiah Skin
Sweet sauce
6 garlics
Chilli sauce (optional)
Ground peanuts
Lettuce
- Mang Kuang filling -
5 shallots
1.2kg of turnip
1 carrot
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tsp sugar
0.5 tsp pepper
- Additional ingredients -
2 Chinese sausages
3 hard boiled eggs
2 Pressed beancurd (Taukwa)
1 cucumber sliced
500g prawns

Do you know when wrapping , the tua gei can be eaten raw just get rid of its tail!!! For cucumber 🥒 no need to peel off the skin just pare it partial leaves some green skin looks 👌and cut it like matchsticks...chilli, we usually grind all the chilli-padi with seeds till paste like and same goes for the garlic...ground till paste like. Enjoy👌👌👌

How do you store popia skin?The popia stick together after I put them in fridge and dried up I had to throw them away.

I was looking forward to learn how to cook the crispy bits that are usually added in popiah to give a fragrant crisp. Too bad it is not present here.

it's just fried pieces of dough. mix flour and water then fry the small pieces
