Poppy seems to wahoo every time she hears her name, so I'm mildly convinced that she thinks you saying "Poppy" is your version of a bark/wahoo, so she responds in turn with her bark/wahoo. Kind of like how dogs will bark at each other to say hi. And that's adorable as hell.

No. I think Poppy knows that the only one that gets a, "Poppy! " is her. She also understands that it's only directed to her or used to reference her, especially when she sees and hears other words being used for other people. Other people don't get a, "Poppy!," only her. I've seen it with dogs and cats and other animals. This isn't a dumb animal. None of them are. Remember that next time you see an animal.

I hope that you are doing better now. When I lost my friend (my cat) it tore me apart. He was there when I was ill, also. He laid alongside me - not eating - and till his fur was becoming matted. He had to be carried away to eat and drink. I spent all my money trying to save him but it was no good. I know he is still with me...a love like that goes beyond the physical, so I know we can never truly be parted. I hope you find some peace and a way to mend your heart.

Reminds me of a Bengal girl cat I adopted with her brother. She used to kind of bark at me with "Araouw!" I tried to mimic this but never quite got the accent right! I have seen quite a few prairie dogs, and they all are pretty vocal.. I have never seen one put So Much Energy into their WaHoo greetings as Poppy does when she greets you!!… I can’t tell if it’s just her personality, or if she just loves you sooo much, or maybe a combination of the two lol.. Just about all the other ones I can think of don’t come close to that Poppy Energy lol… What a unique and precious little girl she is… Special unique animals somehow end up with special unique people.. I don’t know how it happens, but it seems to happen quite a bit.. Like they were made for each other in most cases lol… It’s a beautiful thing in life when that happens.. A very beautiful thing 😬👍🇺🇸
